Chapter 977

Victor Laurent's fingers tapped lightly on the steering wheel.

He stole a glance at Vivian Dempsey's profile through the rearview mirror, terrified she might recall that unmentionable name.

That guy was nothing but a smooth talker with no real substance.

What if they were just on a temporary break...

"You're right. He must've dated before," Vivian suddenly said, snapping him out of his thoughts.

She squinted at Victor as if discovering new land.

This guy used to be famously clueless about romance.

Now he's suddenly so invested in relationship talk? Definitely suspicious!

Victor's Adam's apple bobbed. His palms grew damp with sweat. Deflated, he even breathed with extra caution.

Vivian remained puzzled until she dropped Baby Chloe at the Hamilton residence and ran into Evelyn Carter and Alexander Hamilton, who had just returned.

"He's been acting so weird lately, asking all these strange questions about love. Did something traumatize him?"

She helped Evelyn unroll the rice paper while complaining.

Evelyn and Alexander had specially gone shopping for calligraphy supplies today. Even the smell of ink made her nauseous during pregnancy, yet Alexander insisted on getting the finest materials.

"How do you think he feels about you?" Evelyn asked abruptly.

Vivian answered without hesitation: "He's great. If he hadn't disappeared back then and seen me making a fool of myself over that jerk, he probably would've cut ties with me ages ago."

She shuddered at the memory of that cringe-worthy chapter of her life.

Evelyn mused: "Maybe none of that would've happened if he'd stayed."

"Then I'd have to blame him," Vivian pouted, quickly changing the subject. "Seriously, does your company background check include romantic history?"

She recalled that handsy client from before. If they'd caught that earlier, the company wouldn't have wasted that settlement money.

Evelyn gave her an exasperated look: "Since when did you become so financially savvy?"

"I can't mooch off you forever," Vivian winked playfully before suddenly hugging Evelyn from behind. "But if I really hit rock bottom, you're stuck with me!"

Evelyn laughed as she peeled her off: "More clingy than the baby."

"You're the one who said I'm like your little sister." Vivian suddenly turned serious. "Speaking of which, Victor's like family to me. If he's having relationship troubles, I have to help!"

She rubbed her hands together, eyes sparkling with determination.
