Chapter 210
The campus of Hudson University felt unfamiliar to Evelyn Carter.
Autumn sunlight filtered through the plane trees, casting dappled shadows on the ground. Peter Harrison walked beside her, their footsteps crunching softly through the thick carpet of fallen leaves.
"Want to take a photo?" Peter suddenly stopped.
Evelyn instinctively shook her head. "I'm not photogenic."
"Just one." His eyes held a hopeful glint. "We rarely come here."
A girl with a camera was watching them from a short distance away. After a moment's hesitation, Evelyn nodded.
Peter's face brightened as he hurried over to borrow the camera. When he returned, the tips of his ears were faintly pink.
"Stand closer!" the girl called from afar. "Why are you so far apart?"
Peter stiffly moved half a step nearer.
The girl jogged over and unceremoniously placed his hand on Evelyn's shoulder. "That's better!"
The shutter clicked.
In the photo, Evelyn stood bathed in golden leaves, sunlight softening her silhouette. But Peter's gaze wasn't on the camera—it lingered on her profile.
"Not bad," Evelyn remarked.
Peter leaned close, his breath brushing her hair with a hint of mint. "I meant the subject is beautiful."
Only then did Evelyn realize—he hadn't been looking at the lens at all.
