Chapter 795
Alexander Hamilton stood quietly to the side, his gaze tenderly fixed on the heartwarming scene of Evelyn Carter bonding with the baby. Only when Evelyn reluctantly let go did he eagerly reach out, carefully cradling the little one in his arms.
Adrian Valentine adjusted his glasses, watching the interaction. If he didn’t know the truth, he’d have sworn Alexander was the child’s biological father.
Baby Chloe giggled happily in Alexander’s arms, her tiny fingers playfully tugging at the cufflinks on his shirt sleeve, completely at ease with him.
"You like these?" Without hesitation, Alexander unfastened the cufflink and handed it to her. "Here, you can play with it."
Bianca Langley couldn’t resist teasing, "Well, well, my daughter’s hit the jackpot. With a godfather like Mr. Hamilton, she’s going to be spoiled rotten."
Alexander, still focused on entertaining the baby, replied seriously, "Spoiling is fine, but boundaries are essential. A girl should be raised with love, but she must also learn to protect herself."
Evelyn smiled knowingly before turning to Adrian. "And you are…?"
The young man before her was the polar opposite of Vincent Croix—sunny, bookish, and with eyes that couldn’t hide his adoration whenever they landed on Bianca.
"Dr. Carter," Adrian said shyly, clutching the welcome sign. "Bianca’s told me so much about you and Mr. Hamilton. Thank you for always looking out for her and the baby."
"Friends do that for each other," Evelyn replied, noticing how his gaze never strayed far from Bianca. "What should I call you?"
Bianca nudged Adrian’s shoulder. "Off-topic again. She asked for your name."
"Oh!" He flushed, adjusting his glasses. "I’m Adrian Valentine, studying photography at the University of Toronto. I graduate next month, and then Bianca and I are returning home to get married."
His eyes sparkled as if already envisioning their future happiness. In the stroller, Baby Chloe babbled and waved her tiny hands, seemingly sensing his joy.
The bustling airport wasn’t the best place for a reunion. Alexander had planned to call for a company car, but Bianca insisted Adrian drive to show off his skills, so he didn’t protest.
No one expected the mild-mannered Adrian to drive like a man possessed. With a sharp drift around a corner, everyone in the car—except for Baby Chloe, safely shielded by Bianca—lurched sideways.
Instinctively, Alexander wrapped an arm around Evelyn. "Mr. Valentine, have you raced before?"
"Just a hobby," Adrian admitted with an embarrassed laugh. "Not professional-level, just for fun now and then."
The answer earned Adrian a bit more of Alexander’s respect—adventurous yet measured. No wonder he and Bianca made such a good match.
The hotel suite was spacious and bright, a welcome fruit basket resting on the coffee table. Evelyn immediately set to work boiling water to sterilize bottles, moving in perfect sync with Bianca as she rummaged for formula.
Meanwhile, Alexander began changing the bedding with linens he’d brought from home. Adrian watched, stunned, as his glasses slid down his nose.
"You’re only staying a week, right?" he whispered. "This looks like you’re moving in."
Alexander shook out a sheet. "Dr. Carter has professional-grade cleanliness standards. Even the best hotel linens don’t compare to home."
Adrian nodded thoughtfully, then glanced toward the living room to ensure Bianca was out of earshot before lowering his voice. "Mr. Hamilton, can I ask you something? About… him."
Alexander paused mid-motion. "Didn’t Bianca explain everything?"
"No, no," Adrian quickly waved his hands. "I was just curious…"
But his stiff posture and reddening ears betrayed his nerves.
Alexander understood. He clapped a hand on Adrian’s shoulder. "Worried she’s not over Vincent yet?"
The room fell so quiet they could hear the maple leaves rustling outside.
Adrian pushed up his glasses. "The first time I saw Bianca was in the university’s maple grove. She stood there alone, her silhouette so fragile it hurt to look at—but when she turned around…" His lips curved unconsciously. "She was dazzling, like autumn leaves. I thought she was a freshman and rushed over to introduce myself."
A love-at-first-sight story. Alexander recalled the red maple postcard and suddenly understood Bianca’s choice.
"Don’t worry," he said firmly. "She named her daughter ‘Baby Chloe’ instead of the name Vincent chose. That decision says everything."
Adrian exhaled deeply, the light returning to his eyes behind his glasses.
