Chapter 551
Evelyn Carter stared at the financial report on her computer screen, her fingers tapping the keyboard. Both medicine and finance required rigorous logical thinking. She tried using her doctor's analytical eye to spot anomalies.
But the numbers might as well have been hieroglyphics.
"Something's off," she murmured, frowning.
Alexander Hamilton stood behind her, scanning the screen. "The marketing department's travel expenses are ten times over budget."
"You remember details like that?"
"You think I was born a CEO?" He chuckled.
Evelyn suddenly understood. He'd climbed the corporate ladder step by step too.
"So the problem might be more obvious than I thought?"
Alexander nodded. "Smart people often outsmart themselves. Trying to cover his tracks left even more evidence."
Evelyn pulled up the product pricing list, cross-referencing rapidly. Her pen scratched across paper as she circled numbers.
"That's it." She handed him the report. "Hope we're not wrong about him."
Alexander took it, admiration flashing in his eyes. "Slow but thorough. You got everything right."
He pointed to one line. "Order volume doesn't match revenue."
"Why?"
"Two possibilities." He held up two fingers. "Bad debt, or he's taking kickbacks. At this volume, at least two million ended up in his pocket."
Evelyn's lips curled coldly. "Doctors excel at removing tumors."
She reached for the employee roster, but Alexander stopped her.
"Move against him now, and operations collapse. He's been entrenched at Anderson Corp for twenty years. Holds all the core resources."
Evelyn clenched her fists. "So I just tolerate it?"
"Train new talent as counterbalance first." Alexander advised. "Strike when the time is right."
"Where would I find new talent?" Evelyn gave a bitter laugh. "I don't know a soul at Anderson Corp."
Alexander extended his hand. "Let me see the personnel files."
He skimmed through, suddenly pausing at one name. "This one could work."
"Too young, no?" Evelyn questioned.
A phone rang. Alexander glanced at the screen. "I need to take this."
He strode out, gently closing the door behind him.
Emily Zade's voice came through. "It's done, Mr. Hamilton."
"Good."
"Peter Harrison agreed to go to Fiji."
Alexander's gaze turned icy. "Keep eyes on him. He doesn't get near Evelyn again."
"Already handled."
Emily hesitated. "You've changed. The old you wouldn't have let Peter off so easily."
Alexander looked at the closed door, his voice softening. "Yes. I've found someone to spend the rest of my life with."
