Chapter 672

Lotus Waters clutched the water glass, her fingers trembling slightly. She bit her lip before finally relenting. "Alright, I'll go with you."

They hurried along the same path from last night. Daylight made it easier to take shortcuts, and soon they reached the edge of Lotus Pond.

Police tape cordoned off the entire area. An officer blocked Evelyn Carter's path. "Crime scene. No civilians allowed."

Evelyn tightened her grip on her clothes. "I'm here to find someone."

Secretary Emily Zade turned at the sound of her voice and quickly approached. "This is Mrs. Hamilton, our CEO's wife."

The title sounded vaguely familiar to Lotus, but her mind was too consumed with Alexander Hamilton's safety to dwell on it.

The officer motioned for Evelyn to follow. "Mrs. Hamilton, we need your help with identification."

Evelyn's fingers turned icy. Emily's face drained of color.

There was no body bag on a stretcher. Instead, the officer handed her an evidence bag. "Is this your husband's ring?"

Sunlight glared harshly as the wedding band glinted coldly inside the plastic.

She had discarded hers long ago. Yet he had kept his all this time, carrying it with him.

"It's... our old wedding ring," Evelyn managed, her throat tight.

The officer noted this before walking away. Emily whispered, "Mr. Hamilton always kept it in his suit's inner pocket, inside a velvet pouch."

Evelyn stared at the still water. So this was how deeply he had hidden it.

"Still no leads?" Her voice came out hoarse.

Emily shook her head. "They've even brought in search dogs. The underwater terrain is complicated..."

"Let me go." Lotus suddenly spoke up. "I'm a strong swimmer, and I know these waters."

The police initially refused but reluctantly agreed after consulting villagers.

Half an hour later, Lotus emerged dripping wet, her lips blue. "There's... someone down there. Tangled in the lotus roots."

The scene erupted into chaos. Officers mobilized toward the area she indicated.

Evelyn's vision darkened. Emily caught her just as her knees buckled.

"It might not be him..." Emily's voice shook.

Evelyn dug her nails into her palms. "Impossible."

Across the pond, officers lifted a black body bag onto the shore.

A strange calm settled over Evelyn. The officer approached. "Mrs. Hamilton, we need you to confirm."

Only when she took a step did she realize her legs had gone numb.
