Chapter 753
Sunlight dappled the cobblestone path through the trees.
Evelyn lowered her gaze slightly, her lashes casting delicate shadows. When she looked up, her voice was calm as still water. "I remember you mentioning the foundation and resort development were simultaneous projects?"
Alexander's eyes lingered on her face before he nodded. "Preparations have begun. The donation portal will open on the official website with detailed feedback for every contribution."
His tone was strictly professional, practically screaming "donate and leave" without words.
Gregory remained composed. "Noted."
The air grew thick with tension.
The trio moved forward in unspoken agreement. Evelyn walked beside Gregory while Alexander trailed half a step behind, pushing the stroller. From a distance, they could pass for a family of four.
A discarded coconut shell hit the trash bin with a hollow thud.
Gregory's back prickled with heat—no need to turn around to identify the source. He cleared his throat. "After this morning's presentation, I planned to tour the exhibition. Turns out it's entirely children-themed."
The remark seemed directed at Evelyn, yet equally served as explanation to Alexander.
Alexander's jaw tightened.
First the night market encounter, then the convention center, now this? In a city this size, what were the odds?
Gregory exhaled through his nose. "I'm leaving in three days. Might return to Hudson City after New Year's, or perhaps continue my studies."
Evelyn's fingers stilled momentarily. "Wishing you all the best."
She omitted her own plans to return to Central Hospital, unwilling to complicate matters.
"Thank you." Gregory's smile remained gentle.
Alexander absorbed every syllable until the polite detachment in Gregory's tone finally eased the tension in his shoulders.
He knew loss intimately—now guarding his treasure like a dragon fearing thieves.
At the street corner, Gregory paused. "I'll check out that heritage house ahead."
The protected building's quiet atmosphere clearly wasn't suited for infants.
"Goodbye." Evelyn understood.
Gregory waved without looking back—no lingering glances this time.
Alexander tracked his retreating figure, Adam's apple bobbing. "That was really coincidental?"
The question dripped with barely contained jealousy.
Evelyn wiped their baby's drool. "What else? Did you share our itinerary with him?"
Even the household staff hadn't known their exact destination—precaution against Vincent's interference.
"Absolutely not." Alexander's denial came swift.
"Then there's your answer." She readjusted the bib.
The baby gripped the stroller's edge, wide eyes sparkling. As Alexander adjusted the pillow, sunlight danced across Evelyn's profile.
Suddenly he asked, "Does he still have feelings for you?"
Instant regret.
Yet Evelyn remained eerily composed. "We don't miss each other after long separations. Does that sound like love?"
This wasn't reassurance—just exhaustion over pointless jealousy.
Alexander muttered, "You don't understand men."
"But I understand myself." Her gaze locked with his. "Just like I know it's time for the baby's feeding."
In the stroller, their little one smacked tiny lips hungrily.
