Chapter 915

Evelyn's yoga socks were damp with sweat, clinging to her swollen ankles. She tried bending down to untie her shoes, but her rounded belly made it impossible.

Alexander knelt on one knee, gently lifting her calf. His warm palms circled her puffy ankles with practiced motions.

"Better?" He looked up.

She nodded, eyelids fluttering at the returning blood flow. As an OB-GYN, she understood pregnancy edema better than anyone. Yet this tenderness still made her heart tremble.

Alone in the yoga studio, she'd be struggling against the wall one-legged. The thought stung her nose.

Reporter Watson's words echoed: Pregnancy tests a marriage—how many couples barely hold on for the baby's sake?

Watching Alexander now felt like another lifetime. In their old mansion, they'd gone weeks without crossing paths. Now even yoga classes had become routine.

He deftly swapped her shoes for soft slippers, then suddenly swept her into his arms.

"I can walk—" Her hands flew to his shoulders.

"Mom started a betting pool downstairs," he murmured, "on when I'll get promoted from probationary husband. Humor me?"

Evelyn chuckled. Margaret's kindness wasn't lost on her. But why was he carrying her around the kitchen?

Until Margaret's relieved sigh floated up: "Finally showing some sense."

That night, Evelyn called Olivia.

"Lily's back?" Her grip tightened on the phone.

"Mm, some family emergency." Olivia sounded sleepy. "The baby's fever broke. I gave them formula—"

Evelyn inhaled sharply. "My test results—"

The line perked up. "First—how was yoga today?"

"Fine." Her pulse quickened. "So the—"

"Twins!" Olivia nearly shouted. "Too small to see before, but two heartbeats now! No wonder your back's been killing you!"

Evelyn clapped a hand over her mouth. Tears blurred her vision as she caressed her belly, as if touching both little lives.

"Could it be...her?" The words barely made it past the lump in her throat.

"Absolutely!" Olivia declared. "They're here to stay this time!"

Evelyn laughed through tears, then hushed: "Don't tell Alexander yet."

"Why not?"

"He'll turn the hospital inside out." She eyed the door, almost seeing him poised to burst through.
