Chapter 476
"She's asleep." Alexander Hamilton's voice was soft, but his gaze never left Evelyn Carter's face. "Focus on yourself first."
Evelyn truly had no energy to care about anyone else.
"The endoscopy results came back. Two ulcer sites." Alexander suddenly spoke. "The doctor said it's not serious. They've been treated."
Evelyn gave a faint hum and burrowed deeper under the covers.
Alexander noticed immediately. "Cold?"
"I was hot just a moment ago, but now I'm freezing."
He stood and meticulously tucked the edges of the blanket around her. Leaning over her with both hands planted on either side, his entire frame loomed above her. "Better?"
"It's fine." Evelyn pushed at him. "Get up."
Before she could finish, he pinned her down.
Alexander trapped her arms beneath the blanket. "Stop squirming. You'll let the cold air in."
Evelyn felt like a tightly wrapped cocoon, completely immobilized.
"Let go."
"Stop moving."
"...Fine."
Alexander studied her eyes for several seconds, ensuring her compliance before releasing his grip.
The next instant, Evelyn tried to roll away with the blanket.
But Alexander was faster. He hauled her back, half his weight pressing down on her. "Running again?"
"You're crushing me!"
"If I don't hold you down, you'll keep causing trouble." Alexander gritted his teeth. "Are you an eel? Twisting like this—stop it!"
"Alexander, let go!"
His response was to increase the pressure.
"Alex—"
Evelyn suddenly fell silent.
His face was inches away. One more move and they'd touch.
Their breaths mingled. Alexander's shirt had come undone during the struggle, revealing his toned chest. He exhaled heavily. "Still trying to run?"
His warm breath against her ear made Evelyn jerk away.
Mistaking it for defiance, his voice darkened. "Move again. I dare you."
"Why are you so angry?"
"You won't listen." He muttered the complaint but didn't ease his grip. "Behave."
"Alexander!" Evelyn trembled with rage. "Isn't your fiancée feeling unwell too? Go to her!"
"She's much more obedient than you. Eats when told, sleeps when told." Alexander chuckled. "Not like you—ninety pounds of pure defiance."
"Then why are you still here?!"
"I don't want to leave."
Evelyn froze. "What?"
"I said, I don't want to go back."
Perhaps it was the warmth, but Evelyn's cheeks flushed pink, her eyes unusually bright. Alexander found himself momentarily captivated.
"I never should've come to this hotel—"
Her words were cut off as his lips sealed hers.
Evelyn struggled desperately, like a kitten pinned in place.
"Alex—mmph!"
When she finally broke free, she was shaking with anger. "Have you lost your mind?!"
Alexander's eyes darkened. "Not yet." His tone carried implication. "We'll see about tomorrow."
"Alex—"
Another deep kiss.
Evelyn twisted her face away, but Alexander only laughed. "Your neck's quite flexible."
"My nose is stuffed!" She gasped for air. "Are you trying to suffocate me?"
He lifted slightly but didn't retreat.
As Evelyn caught her breath, she hissed, "Your fiancée is right next door!"
"I remember." He kissed her again. "She's on her period. Not convenient."
Evelyn's eyes widened. "You're still continuing?!"
Alexander's smile deepened as he took in her swollen lips.
"Alexander! You said you'd leave when the water boiled!"
"Oh right." He yanked out the plug one-handed and tossed the kettle aside. "Safety first."
"You—bastard!"
"Hmm, tired of that one. Got anything new?"
"Beast!"
"Now that's creative." Alexander trapped her in the confined space, his breathing growing heavier.
"Sophia was right." Flames burned in his eyes. "Reasoning with you is useless. Only force gets a reaction."
"You enjoy being insulted?"
Alexander suddenly frowned. "What's this?"
His hand slipped beneath the blanket.
