Chapter 266

The horror film was titled "Terror," spelled with capital letters for emphasis.

Alexander Hamilton had deliberately chosen the corner seats in the last row, offering an unobstructed view of the entire theater.

But this also meant they were equally visible to the audience in front.

Evelyn Carter found herself trapped between the wall and Alexander, unable to move. On screen, an exploration team ventured deeper into an abandoned hospital, the eerie visuals paired with unsettling sound effects making her skin crawl.

Suddenly, darkness enveloped her vision.

The fresh scent of citrus lingered around her.

"What are you doing?"

Before Alexander could answer, screams erupted from the front rows. A child wailed in terror.

Seconds later, he removed his hand. "That scene was too graphic."

Evelyn glanced sideways to see him lounging casually, legs crossed, munching popcorn with apparent enjoyment.

"Alexander," she hissed, "you dragged me out at noon just to watch a horror movie?"

He offered the popcorn bucket. "Want some?"

"No."

"It won't make you fat."

"..."

Noticing her worsening expression, Alexander chuckled and set the popcorn aside. Leaning closer, he murmured, "You still haven't figured out Peter Harrison's real motive."

Evelyn frowned. "Simon Stapleton was genuinely interested in Lora Hardy until Peter showed up and planted doubts. This is clearly a power move to demonstrate he can sabotage our plans."

"Exactly." Alexander nodded. "And then?"

"Then Natalie Stapleton can only secure her divorce and assets by negotiating with him and meeting his demands."

The corner of Alexander's mouth lifted. "But have you considered what someone as calculating as Peter truly wants?"

The question gave Evelyn pause.

Peter had flourished at the design institute, earning Mr. Harrison's favor and even taking charge of Hamilton Group projects.

His career prospects shone bright.

"I asked him about sudden wealth before. He didn't seem interested."

Alexander scoffed. "I've met plenty like him. Money won't sway him—he's after something more lasting."

"Then what does he want?"

"Redemption. To prove he's superior to privileged heirs. To make those who looked down on him grovel."

Evelyn shook her head. "He's always been top of his class with a respectable career. Who would disrespect him?"

"You don't understand state enterprises. Their seniority systems can crush a person's dignity."

"So what's our move? Initiate negotiations?"

"Patience." Alexander's gaze swept the rows ahead. "Whoever acts first loses leverage. Let him come to us."

Evelyn scanned the theater.

Simon was absent.

So was Peter.

"Then what exactly are we waiting for?"
