Chapter 766

Evelyn Carter maintained a professional smile as her patient enthusiastically chatted about personal matters. The woman kept probing into Evelyn's private life before bluntly offering to set her up.

"Dr. Carter, my nephew works in healthcare too—an outstanding young man..."

Evelyn couldn't outright refuse. She planned to add the contact first and politely decline later. That same evening, a friend request appeared.

The profile picture unmistakably belonged to that flustered pharmaceutical rep she'd seen outside the OR earlier. Evelyn arched an eyebrow. The man seemed like a complete greenhorn, lacking even basic professionalism.

"Hello Dr. Carter, I'm Liam Macmillan from Meditech Pharmaceuticals."

His direct approach actually relieved her. She immediately replied, "Apologies, but I'm not currently interested in dating."

"Understood," came the swift response. "Actually, I wanted to introduce our newly developed cesarean surgical stapler."

Now intrigued, Evelyn engaged. While staplers were common, models specifically modified for postpartum needs were rare.

"Do you have detailed specifications?" Her fingers flew across the screen. "Final purchasing decisions rest with the department—I'll need substantial data to convince them."

Their discussion grew increasingly technical. So absorbed was Evelyn that she didn't notice Alexander Hamilton emerging from the shower.

"Seems the baby's adjusting well," his sudden comment startled her into nearly dropping the phone.

She glared. "Walking silently—trying to give someone a heart attack?"

Alexander glanced at the peacefully sleeping infant in the bassinet. "You seemed engrossed. Hospital business?"

"Pharmaceutical rep." Evelyn didn't look up. "Scheduled a weekend product demo."

Alexander hesitated, then simply said, "I'll be working in the study. Don't stay up too late."

Since the baby began sleeping through the night, they'd resumed separate bedrooms—Evelyn in the master suite with the child, Alexander in the converted study.

Late that night, getting water, Evelyn noticed light still glowing under the study door. She hovered momentarily before approaching.

Through the door, Alexander's icy tone carried clearly: "...Acquire outright. If they refuse, initiate price wars."

"...They'll beg to sell their shares once bankrupt."

"Don't rush the technical staff. Let them come to us."

Evelyn's raised hand hovered, then slowly lowered.
