Chapter 589
Alexander Hamilton gave a slight nod, indifferent to Lydia Laurent's purpose for visiting.
Lydia's eyes lit up as she seized the opportunity to step closer. "Alexander, my father would like to meet with you."
Her large, dewy eyes blinked innocently, her voice soft and sweet.
Evelyn Carter turned away with the baby's breath flowers in her arms. "I'll leave you two to talk. I have patients to see."
"Wait." Alexander immediately followed, completely ignoring Lydia's outstretched hand.
Lydia stood frozen, her smile slowly hardening.
Her grip tightened around the medical report hidden behind her back, crumpling the paper in her palm.
Inside the hospital room, Ethan Valentine was engrossed in his phone screen.
"Come in," he said without looking up.
"So this is your new room." Evelyn's voice made his head snap up.
Ethan bolted upright like a spring. "Evelyn!"
His face broke into a radiant grin—until he spotted the figure behind her.
Alexander stepped between them, coldly thrusting a massive bouquet of lilies into Ethan's arms. "Get well soon."
The flowers landed heavily against Ethan's chest.
Suddenly, Ethan clutched his nose. "I'm allergic to pollen."
Evelyn quickly moved the lilies to the windowsill.
"Don't touch the baby's breath!" Ethan blurted out. "That's my favorite."
Alexander narrowed his eyes. "How convenient. Selective allergies?"
"Allergens vary from person to person," Ethan said with an innocent blink. "Did your high school biology teacher skip that chapter, old man?"
Evelyn frowned. "Do they cover that in middle school now?"
"Self-taught." Ethan puffed out his chest proudly. "I'm going to medical school, Evelyn!"
Alexander scoffed. "A jock switching to academics?"
"I'll forfeit my athletic scholarship," Ethan shot back without hesitation.
Alexander raised an eyebrow. "You have six months until college entrance exams. Think you can catch up?"
Evelyn frowned. "You're already on the provincial team. Don't make rash decisions."
Ethan's expression dimmed. "You don't believe in me either?"
"It's not that..." Evelyn sighed. "You should discuss this with your parents first."
"They'll support me!" Ethan's eyes suddenly sparkled again. "Will you tutor me, Evelyn?"
Alexander's face darkened instantly.
