Chapter 364

Evelyn's brows furrowed. "You ran out before finishing your treatment?"

"I was afraid you'd disappear again."

"..."

Without another word, Alexander grabbed her wrist and pulled her back to the Burn Department.

Two nurses exchanged knowing smiles. "Found your wife?" one asked in English.

"Yes. Sorry for the delay."

"No problem. Shall we continue?"

Alexander unbuttoned his suit jacket and shrugged it off. Bloodstains bloomed across the back of his white dress shirt.

"Could you hold this for me?"

Evelyn took the jacket, her fingertips brushing against lingering warmth.

"Thanks." His eyes softened with gratitude.

As the nurses tended to his wounds, Evelyn scrolled through her phone's map. Suddenly, his phone vibrated in the jacket pocket.

"It's your mother."

"You answer it."

"..."

"She rarely calls these days. Must be urgent."

Remembering Margaret's hypertension, Evelyn pressed answer. "Hello?"

"Who...?" The voice hesitated. "Evelyn? Your voice..."

"My throat's healing."

Margaret choked back a sob. "It really is you..."

"Alexander's getting treated. I'll have him call you back."

"No need." Margaret's voice trembled. "I just wanted to confirm he found you."

Evelyn's fingers stiffened.

Teresa's anxious voice came through the line. "Is Terry alright?"

Margaret explained, "Annabelle's parents have been worried sick about you."

"I see."

"They visit the temple daily. Their eyes are swollen from crying."

Evelyn watched plane tree leaves drift past the window. "I'm fine."

"Those wounds on Alexander's back—"

"The nurses are handling it."

Margaret lowered her voice. "He's been searching for you like a madman these past days."

Evelyn saw the nurse plucking bloodied gauze with tweezers.

"Evelyn," Margaret sighed, "give him a chance. That boy... I've never seen him so broken."
