Chapter 914

Alexander Hamilton frowned slightly, his gaze fixed on Evelyn Carter's face. "Can she really take care of the child? Someone who once abandoned her own baby."

His fingers tapped lightly against the desk, the rhythm betraying his unease. Now that he'd poured all his tenderness into that swaddled infant, his anger toward the irresponsible mother burned fiercely.

Evelyn looked up at him. "People make mistakes. Besides, having a child isn't a one-person responsibility." She paused. "At least she gave the child life. What about that man?"

The boyfriend Lily Flores mentioned had never shown his face. If her impulsive decision to abandon the baby was wrong, the vanished man was the true source of this tragedy.

Alexander's expression faltered, a flicker of regret crossing his eyes. "I wasn't thinking clearly."

Just like how he used to expect Evelyn to always be perfect, forgetting she could grow weary too.

Evelyn didn't press the matter further. She braced her lower back as she slowly sat down—the aches had been coming more frequently lately. The prenatal checkups she should've had kept getting postponed by their constant travels.

Noticing her movement, Alexander stepped closer. "Emily mentioned there's a prenatal yoga class near the office. Evening sessions. Very effective for relieving discomfort."

He recited the details meticulously, even remembering the exact schedule. Evelyn could almost picture the surprised expression on the other end when he'd called to inquire.

"It does help," Evelyn nodded. "I'll check it out after we settle the hospital matters."

She didn't specify when. Didn't mention whether she wanted him to come along.

Alexander's throat moved. "Going alone isn't convenient."

"Can't trouble Vivian—she's swamped lately." Evelyn mentally ran through possible companions before stopping abruptly. "You mean... you'd accompany me?"

The thought hadn't even crossed her mind. With paparazzi potentially lurking and a crowded yoga class, the risk of recognition was too high.

Alexander's gaze remained steady. "If you're willing, I have a solution."

That evening, Evelyn witnessed his "solution."

"Private lessons for prenatal yoga?" She surveyed the freshly arranged yoga room, torn between laughter and exasperation.

They'd cleared out a second-floor room in the Hamilton estate, padding it wall-to-wall with soft mats. The elite instructor beamed. "Mrs. Hamilton is so fortunate. Mr. Hamilton specifically requested one-on-one instruction."

Evelyn didn't correct the title. Explanations would only complicate things—calling them ex-spouses might be mistaken for some couple's game.

Alexander watched her reactions intently throughout. Only when he confirmed her full attention on the lesson did he relax and follow along.

During the pelvic exercises, he stood quietly nearby. The moment her shoelace came loose, he was already on one knee, deft fingers tying it securely.

As the session ended, the instructor reminded cheerfully, "Next week we'll need partner assistance, Mr. Hamilton. Do come on time."

Alexander nodded. He'd already memorized every stretch. For the next six days, he could personally guide her through them.

Perspiration dampened Evelyn's forehead. She wanted to shower, but her legs felt like lead.

"Rest first." Alexander handed her warm water. "Sudden exercise causes muscle soreness."

Kneeling, he gently cradled her ankle to remove the soft-soled shoes. His fingertips brushed her instep—just a fleeting touch that sent shivers dancing across her skin.
