Chapter 590
"Hmm?"
Alexander Hamilton's expression darkened as he immediately refused on her behalf: "She's extremely busy with work lately and doesn't have time to tutor high school students."
"I can wait until Dr. Carter has free time to ask for guidance."
"She won't have time."
"She must rest on weekends, right?"
"Year-round overtime."
Ethan Valentine widened his eyes dramatically. "Dr. Carter, does your company exploit employees like this? Should I help you file a labor dispute?"
Evelyn Carter smiled faintly. "I volunteer for overtime."
"That's not healthy, Dr. Carter. Principal Evans always says we should balance work and rest—"
"I know."
"Then..." Ethan's eyes lit up. "You must have weekends off! I can be your masseur—my technique is professional, guaranteed to relax your entire body—"
Massage?
Alexander instantly went on high alert, cutting him off coldly. "Which subject do you need help with? I'll tutor you."
Ethan ignored him, gazing at Evelyn like a scolded puppy.
Evelyn felt Alexander was being too harsh and gently explained, "I genuinely don't have spare time right now. Even if I agreed, I might not be able to tutor you promptly. Plus, my expertise doesn't align with your subjects—a professional tutor would be more suitable."
"No problem!" Ethan's eyes sparkled. "Just occasional pointers from you would be enough! I promise not to disrupt your work!"
An invisible tail seemed to wag furiously behind him.
Alexander's temples throbbed in irritation as he aimed for the jugular: "I heard you're quite popular at school. Suddenly quitting basketball must disappoint all those girls."
Evelyn recalled the basketball court that day and teased lightly, "Youth is so vibrant—the cheers nearly deafened me. Seems you're quite the heartthrob at school?"
The nearly eight-year age gap between them meant their school memories were worlds apart. During her student days, there were no such pristine tracks or multimedia classrooms.
Alexander added leisurely, "Young people today are far more open-minded than our generation."
He and Evelyn were peers.
Ethan suddenly dropped a bombshell: "Sir, are you really Dr. Carter's contemporary? You sound exactly like our dean of discipline."
Alexander: "..."
"Dr. Carter, this gentleman is older than you, right?"
"...Yes."
Ethan nodded sagely. "No wonder he talks like my dad..."
Innocently blinking, he turned to Evelyn. "Dr. Carter, is the Dean Wang you mentioned our current dean of discipline?"
"Yes." Evelyn reminisced. "He'd just become dean during my time. I never expected him to stay in the role this long. Back then, he always wore black and specialized in catching students late for evening study hall."
Ethan gasped theatrically. "Dean Wang is so trendy now! Pink shirts, red tees—we secretly call him the 'Raging Husky'!"
He gestured animatedly. "He doesn't care about tardiness anymore—now he ambushes couples on the sports field! Jumps out of flower beds with a flashlight bright enough to blind you!"
Evelyn stifled a laugh but chided gently, "Dean Wang is a dedicated educator. Don't address teachers like that."
Ethan nodded obediently. "Understood, Dr. Carter."
Alexander interjected icily, "Sounds like you have quite the eventful campus life? Plenty of experience?"
If Ethan could play mind games, so could he.
Ethan waved his hands frantically. "I've never dated anyone!"
Evelyn looked surprised. "A campus celebrity like you? Girls were very proactive in my time."
Ethan's ears turned pink. "Nobody writes love letters anymore—it's all about adding WeChat now."
Alexander seized the opening. "And you claim no experience?"
"I only received confessions! Never accepted any!" Ethan jumped in frustration. "Dr. Carter, you have to believe me!"
Evelyn thought of her uneventful high school years and murmured, "Campus romance can be beautiful... as long as it doesn't affect academics..."
Remembering Vivian Dempsey's painful lesson, she added, "But you must choose wisely."
Ethan's eyes shone brilliantly as he stared at Evelyn. "I have excellent judgment! Dr. Carter, you're the best person in the world!"
