Chapter 786
Alexander Hamilton's lips curved slightly, his eyes flashing with approval.
"Well said." He gave a faint nod. "Don't hesitate to ask if you need anything. I may not be able to help with everything, but arranging lawyers or bodyguards is no trouble at all."
Bianca Langley pulled a document from her bag, tapping it lightly with her fingertip. "Actually, there's something I'd like you to handle. Next time Vincent Croix comes bothering you, just give him this."
The bold words "Divorce Agreement" leaped off the page.
Evelyn Carter accepted the file, her brow furrowing slightly. "He probably won't sign it easily now. And wouldn't this expose your whereabouts?"
"Don't worry." Bianca scoffed, her eyes brimming with disdain. "He doesn't even know what coffee I like, let alone how to find me. As for the baby—" She paused. "With you two around, he won't dare scheme anything. This agreement is just a formality. The court summons is already on its way."
The terms were shockingly generous. Aside from custody of the child, Bianca was relinquishing nearly all her rights—even willing to shoulder full blame for the marriage's collapse.
For a woman to go this far, Vincent Croix had truly set a new low for scumbags.
A week later, at dusk, Vincent appeared again outside the OB-GYN clinic.
"Dr. Carter," he blocked her path with a sinister smile, "shouldn't we have a proper talk?"
Evelyn didn't even look up. "Please register first if you need medical attention."
"This is the OB-GYN department!" Vincent's face darkened.
"Oh." Evelyn finally met his gaze. "Third floor, Psychiatry—turn right and go straight. Your current symptoms strongly suggest delusional disorder."
With the shift nearly over, nurses in the hallway sensed the tension and began gathering around.
Vincent's expression turned stormy, but he suppressed his anger. "Why play dumb, Dr. Carter? I'm here today to take my daughter."
"Your daughter?" Evelyn let out a cold laugh. "Do you even remember her birth weight, Mr. Croix? Or her favorite toy color?"
She stood, her gaze sharp as a blade. "That child might shy away from strangers, but when she sees you—" She deliberately paused. "She screams in terror. You've spent less time with her than I have as an outsider. What right do you have to demand custody?"
Struck where it hurt, Vincent dropped all pretense. "If Mr. Hamilton insists on interfering, we'll settle this in court. When this becomes public knowledge, it won't reflect well on anyone."
Blood ties were his final trump card.
Evelyn clenched her fists.
"Dr. Carter!" The head nurse was about to call security when her eyes suddenly brightened.
At the end of the hallway, Alexander approached with steady strides.
Vincent's face paled instantly, his earlier bravado vanishing without a trace.
"Mr. Croix," Alexander's voice was unhurried, "shall I repeat what I said last time?"
A simple question, yet it sent cold sweat down Vincent's back.
Faced with an insurmountable power gap, all schemes were futile.
Vincent's Adam's apple bobbed before he finally forced out, "My apologies."
His retreating figure radiated unmistakable humiliation.
Once the crowd dispersed, Alexander grasped Evelyn's icy hand. "You look terrible."
"He infuriates me." She exhaled deeply. "I can tolerate anything else, but using blood relations to manipulate a child..."
"He regrets it." Alexander's eyes darkened. "But it's too late. Bianca has completely given up on him this time."
Evelyn looked puzzled. "Didn't she already—"
"Some things," Alexander gently squeezed her fingertips, "aren't about what's said, but what's done."
