Chapter 751

Evelyn's eyelashes fluttered slightly. She remained silent.

Alexander smiled gently, his gaze warm as he watched her. "Coming to the lecture this afternoon?"

"No." She leaned over to play with the baby in the stroller. "Any longer and she'll start fussing."

Her usually cool voice softened unconsciously when speaking to the child.

The baby babbled, stretching out tiny hands. "Mama... up..."

At just over a year old, she was at that age where words started forming.

No one had taught her to say "mama" or "papa." She'd picked it up somewhere on her own.

Evelyn's eyes suddenly burned.

If that other child had survived, they'd be calling her "mama" by now too.

Alexander's expression darkened, his Adam's apple bobbing. Before he could speak, the baby burst into tears.

"Hungry?" Evelyn checked immediately.

"Fed her half an hour ago." He glanced at his watch.

As Evelyn checked for uncomfortable clothing, her palm met dampness. "Did you change her diaper?"

Alexander rubbed his nose. "I had staff help."

Though the baby was young, he wasn't her biological father. Some things felt inappropriate.

Evelyn said nothing, grabbing diapers and clean clothes before heading to the nursing room. Returning, she chuckled. "The helper was a young woman, wasn't she?"

Alexander nodded.

"The diaper wasn't even fastened properly. Clearly never cared for a baby before." She smiled. "You'd have done better."

His lips parted, then closed.

He actually had learned to change diapers—practiced specifically for it. But mentioning that now would kill the mood.

"New clothes at the mall?" he suggested, tucking the soiled outfit into the stroller's storage compartment.

The once pampered young master now considered even these mundane details.

"Alright." Evelyn agreed readily.

Wet clothes were unbearable.

Alexander exhaled inwardly in relief. He led her familiarly to the mall's luxury boutiques.

Evelyn veered into a fast fashion store instead. "No need for expensive clothes while traveling with a baby."

Pushing the stroller after her, Alexander adapted seamlessly to this "supermarket" shopping style. After surviving small-town wholesale markets, nothing fazed him anymore.

Evelyn moved efficiently, selecting outfits within minutes. Alexander lagged behind deliberately, choosing a men's version from the same collection.

It was an anime collaboration—Evelyn's top featured the female lead, his the male lead.

"You're buying too?" Evelyn blinked. "Your clothes aren't dirty."

"Spares." He deadpanned, checking out swiftly.

When Evelyn emerged changed, Alexander immediately handed her the baby and changed himself.

Side by side, they looked every inch the picture-perfect couple.

"Didn't know you liked this anime," Evelyn remarked.

Alexander stiffened.

"Watched it as a kid." He stared at the graphic on his shirt, scrambling to recall the plot.

"It was serialized when I was in elementary school. Got too long later so I dropped it." Evelyn said. "Vivian followed every episode though—bought the full manga set."

Alexander's pulse quickened. "Did the main couple end up together?"

Evelyn's expression turned odd. "Sure you want to know?"

"Don't tell me it's a tragedy?" Dread pooled in his stomach.

"Not exactly." She chose her words carefully. "The male lead got with the second female lead. The female lead ended up with the second male lead. Vivian ranted about the terrible ending for three days straight."

Alexander stared at his shirt, the design suddenly glaring.

Was it too late to swap for the second male lead's version?

"Doesn't matter." He inhaled deeply. "As long as I don't see the ending, the main couple stays together forever."
