Chapter 273

The French plane trees rustled outside the apartment building.

Evelyn Carter crossed her arms, her gaze icy. "Get to the point."

Annabelle Taylor's smile froze. Her fingers twisted the hem of her shirt unconsciously. "I know you hate me..."

"Then stop wasting my time."

"My parents want to invite you to dinner."

Evelyn let out a derisive laugh. "What, a trap?"

"No!" Annabelle's eyes reddened. "They just want to apologize to you in person..."

"Not interested."

The door of a red sedan swung open.

A refined middle-aged man approached quickly. "Annabelle, get in the car first."

Annabelle bit her lip and turned away.

"Dr. Carter, I've heard so much about you." The man handed her a business card. "I'm Andrew Taylor."

Evelyn didn't take it. "Mr. Taylor, speak plainly."

"Our family has wronged you." Andrew sighed. "Annabelle... she won't have it easy from now on."

"With the Hamiltons protecting her, what does she have to worry about?"

"Alexander..." Andrew gave a bitter smile. "That won't last forever."

Evelyn raised an eyebrow. "So?"

"If in the future—"

"Evelyn!" A clear male voice interrupted.

Peter Harrison strode over with a fruit basket, casually draping an arm around her shoulders. "Your mom invited me for dinner."

Evelyn stiffened.

"And you are?" Andrew looked puzzled.

"Fiancé." Peter flashed an innocent grin. "Wedding's next month. You should come."

Andrew's face paled. "I see... My apologies."

As the car drove away, Evelyn shoved Peter off.

"Enjoying your little act?"

Peter waved his phone. "Mr. Hamilton just transferred the final payment. Gotta provide good after-sales service."
