Chapter 295

Though born with a silver spoon in her mouth, Vivian Dempsey had an insatiable love for street food.

She led the group into a humble little Spicy Hot Pot shop.

"Hiss—" Vivian gasped from the heat but kept shoving meatballs into her mouth. "I've been eating here for three years. Authentic as it gets!"

Evelyn Carter opted for a mild broth, leisurely picking at the vegetables.

Gregory Wilson stared at the greasy tabletop, his frown deep enough to crush flies. "You brought her to a place like this?"

"Why not?" Vivian slapped the table. "Evelyn used to haunt the food stalls behind our campus!"

Evelyn chuckled. "Even the professors frequented the vendors near the med school. Now those classmates are all department heads in major hospitals."

"Exactly!" Vivian stuffed a slice of lotus root into her mouth. "Better than some people putting on airs with their fancy Western meals."

Gregory fell silent for a moment before suddenly waving the owner over. "One mild broth, please."

"Oh? The great Dr. Wilson finally stooping to our level?" Vivian teased with a smirk.

He scoffed. "Only for Evelyn's sake."

At the hospital, the handover proceeded smoothly.

Dr. Porter adjusted her reading glasses as she reviewed the files. "This old bones still have some use. Don’t worry about us."

Olivia Lightfoot clung to Evelyn, crying like a child. "Dr. Carter, don’t forget to send me chocolates!"

Evelyn ruffled her hair, a pang of envy flickering in her chest.

Such simple happiness was beautiful.

Late that night, Emily Anderson called.

"Don’t be sad, sis." Her voice was tender with concern. "I heard about Peter moving to S City."

Evelyn’s grip on the phone tightened.

"You two were perfect together..." Emily grumbled. "Does his company have no one else? Why tear you apart?"

The cold moonlight spilled through the window. Evelyn studied her reflection in the glass and softly murmured, "Yeah."
