Chapter 102
Vincent Wilson suddenly leaned in with a suggestive smirk. "Dr. Carter, you're single now, right?"
Evelyn Carter took a step back. "What do you mean?"
"Relax," he spread his hands. "I'm just saying Alexander was blind to let you go. I may not be as rich as him, but I can give you everything you want."
Evelyn scoffed. "What's this? Some twisted sister-in-law fantasy?"
"Ouch," Vincent dramatically clutched his chest. "You think so little of me. I'm no saint, but I'm not that depraved."
"Really?"
"Absolutely!" He puffed out his chest. "I'm just a slightly mischievous good guy."
Evelyn ignored him.
The failed divorce proceedings sent Vivian Dempsey into a rage. She posted a scathing rant on social media, tearing Alexander apart.
Even worse, she began aggressively setting Evelyn up on dates.
Gregory Wilson became her top candidate.
"Greg's actually great," Vivian said while opening packages. "Why not give him a chance?"
Evelyn shook her head. "Not happening."
"Fine," Vivian shrugged. "At least you were upfront with him. Very classy."
She pointed to a corner. "Your cookies arrived."
Evelyn handed her two boxes. "For your trouble."
"Thanks!" Vivian grinned while munching.
Evelyn carefully wrapped three more boxes. "These are for Dr. Wilson tomorrow."
Between cookie bites, Vivian mumbled, "You don't have to be so formal..."
"Better to keep things clear."
The next morning, Evelyn left the cookies at the nurse's station.
Just as she prepared for blood draws, the hospital director called.
"Evelyn, are you free this weekend?"
Weekends used to be reserved for Alexander. Now they stretched empty before her.
"What do you need?"
"My daughter's getting married," the director sighed wearily. "Could you help out?"
Evelyn had met his daughter once—a beautiful art student.
"What should I do?"
"My wife passed years ago. It's just us two. I don't understand modern wedding customs and need someone reliable to oversee things."
"But I've never planned a wedding..."
"That's alright," he hurried to say. "I just need someone detail-oriented."
Remembering his kindness, Evelyn agreed. "Of course. Send me the address."
"Thank you! Feel free to bring friends—the more the merrier."
That evening, Evelyn mentioned it casually to Vivian.
Vivian's eyes widened. "Where's the venue?"
Evelyn sighed and handed over her phone. "Guess."
Vivian nearly jumped seeing the location. "Alexander's hotel?!"
