Chapter 350
Uncle Dempsey's forehead creased into deep furrows. "A phone from the Wilson family?"
"Yes. Evelyn's currently using one he gave her."
Mr. Wilson suddenly lowered his voice. "Evelyn, can we speak privately?"
The aroma of congee wafted from the kitchen. Without looking up, Gregory waved a hand. "Go ahead."
Evelyn tightened her grip on the phone as she entered the guest room.
Uncle Dempsey's gaze followed her. "Is the door locked?"
She flipped the camera to show him the secured latch.
Vivian leaned in. "Dad, what's so secretive? Greg's practically family."
Uncle Dempsey heaved a heavy sigh.
"What's going on?"
"Evelyn," he said, staring directly into the lens, "Alexander Hamilton has gone to England. Can you contact him to ask about Simon Stapleton's whereabouts?"
Vivian interrupted, "Who cares what happens to that scumbag? You think Alexander would let him off easy?"
"That's exactly what worries me!" Uncle Dempsey's voice rose abruptly. "You don't know the real Alexander Hamilton..."
His Adam's apple bobbed as he hesitated.
Vivian frowned. "Dad, what are you really afraid of?"
"During the Hamilton Group's power transition," he whispered, "all those veteran executives stepped down overnight. Does that seem normal to you?"
"It proves Alexander's capable."
"Capable?" Uncle Dempsey gave a cold laugh. "Do you know what happened to Director Zhang, his most vocal opponent?"
The room plunged into silence.
"On their third day of deep-sea fishing, only Alexander returned alive. The news reported a freak tsunami."
Vivian gasped. "That's..."
"Here's the strange part," Uncle Dempsey's voice dropped to a near-inaudible level, "weather records showed calm seas that day. Not a storm in sight."
Evelyn's fingertips turned icy.
"After that, all opposition vanished like it never existed," Uncle Dempsey's eyes flickered with unease. "Poof. Gone without a trace."
Vivian's voice trembled. "Dad, are you saying..."
"I'm not saying anything." His volume spiked suddenly. "But if Simon really fell into Alexander's hands..."
A ceramic object shattered outside the window.
Evelyn whirled around. A slender shadow now stretched beneath the door—one that hadn't been there before.
