Chapter 252

Evelyn's gaze fell on Vivian's hands. "The blood has dried."

Vivian finally noticed the crimson stains coating her fingers. She gave a bitter laugh and shook her hands. "I didn't even notice. Evelyn, you didn't see Natalie lying there in that pool of blood—unresponsive no matter how much I called her name..."

"The surgery was successful. She's stable now."

Vivian exhaled sharply. "And the baby?"

Evelyn lowered her lashes.

"Gone?"

"Yes."

"Boy or girl?" Vivian's jaw clenched. "I want to see that witch Mrs. Stapleton's face when she finds out her precious grandson is dead."

Evelyn's fingertips trembled slightly.

Vivian frowned. "Too small to tell?"

"I saw everything clearly."

"Then why—"

Evelyn abruptly stood and locked the office door.

Vivian's expression darkened. "What's wrong?"

"The fetus..." Evelyn forced the words out. "Had ambiguous genitalia."

"What?!"

"Mrs. Stapleton's so-called 'medicine' contained high doses of androgens. It caused abnormal development."

Vivian slammed her fist against the wall. "Monsters! Thank God that child never had to—"

The wall clock ticked past 1 AM.

Sleep wouldn't come tonight.

A sudden knock interrupted them.

Gregory stood outside. "Natalie's awake, but she needs supervision."

"I'll go!" Vivian immediately offered.

"No," Gregory shook his head. "Post-op care requires medical expertise."

Evelyn rubbed her temples. "Call a nurse."

"What about the hospital director?" she asked.

Gregory sighed. "Took one look at Natalie and fainted on the spot."

A phone buzzed sharply.

Alexander Hamilton's name flashed on the screen.

"Hello?"

"Still up?" His voice carried the thickness of alcohol.

"What do you want?"

"Simon drugged Lora tonight."

Evelyn bolted upright. "What?!"

"Relax. My team intercepted them." Alexander chuckled darkly. "Next time I'll lead with that."

"...Thank you."

"Peter Harrison is cut from the same cloth as Simon. Be careful."

"I know."

Silence stretched between them.

"I lost control today." Alexander's voice turned rough. "Seeing you with Peter, I—"

"I understand."

"Evelyn... I'm not the monster you think I am."
