Chapter 376

Linda stepped into the cabin, her high heels clicking against the floor. The hem of her dress brushed the threshold. "Evelyn, are you sure someone's here?"

The cramped space offered no hiding spots.

Annabelle's fingers traced the wrinkles in the bedsheet, her gaze growing more frantic. "He's not here..."

"Who are you looking for?" Linda tilted her head.

"Nothing," Annabelle forced a smile. "I was just worried about Miss Carter's safety."

Linda pressed a hand to her chest. "Oh, Evelyn, you're such a dedicated lawyer."

"You've searched three times," Evelyn leaned against the doorframe. "What exactly are you looking for?"

Annabelle's nails dug into her palm. "Him..."

"Who?"

"A... suspicious person."

Evelyn chuckled. "Do you think I'd harbor a criminal? Or maybe you suspect I stole the yacht's silverware?"

Gregory's expression darkened. "Evelyn, that's enough."

Linda quickly stepped between them. "Gregory, Evelyn was just being professionally cautious—"

"Professionally cautious?" Gregory scoffed. "This cabin couldn't even hide a rat. What is she really after?"

Paul shielded his wife behind him. "Gregory, a lawyer's instincts are often sharp—"

"So you think Evelyn is hiding something too?"

"I'm just saying we should wait—"

"Fine," Evelyn straightened. "Let's see what the great lawyer uncovers."

Everyone held their breath as Annabelle flipped the pillow over.

Seconds ticked by.

A sheen of sweat formed on Annabelle's forehead. She came up empty-handed.

"Satisfied?" Evelyn asked.

Annabelle's lips trembled. "I was only worried about you..."

"Everyone here is a stranger. Who would want to harm me?"

"I—"

Gregory pulled the cabin door open. "Since nothing was found, please return to the banquet hall. Linda, don't let this ruin the wedding."

Linda twisted her fingers guiltily. "Gregory, I'm so sorry."

"You're not the one who should apologize." Gregory glanced at Annabelle. "I'll stay with Evelyn. Does that ease your mind?"

Paul nodded. "We'll feel safer with you here. I'll have champagne sent over later."

As the crowd dispersed, the air grew thick with tension.

Annabelle suddenly grabbed Evelyn's wrist. "Alexander was here, wasn't he?"

"You searched everywhere."

"He had to be!" Annabelle's nails bit into Evelyn's skin. "I can still smell his cologne!"
