Chapter 332
Teresa Taylor forced a smile. "Divorces always have their reasons. Back then it was because of Annabelle... but let's not dwell on painful memories. Now that the misunderstanding is cleared up, reconciliation isn't impossible."
"That's not—"
Annabelle suddenly interrupted. "Miss Dempsey, shouldn't Evelyn and Alexander handle their own affairs? You're her friend, but ultimately not involved. If they truly love each other, your interference will only delay them."
Vivian Dempsey fell silent.
Earlier, Evelyn had deliberately sent her away to speak with Alexander alone.
She had no rebuttal.
Vivian stammered, "But this has nothing to do with you or your mother, does it? Mind your own business."
"Fine," Annabelle nodded meekly. "We'll stay out of it. Let Evelyn and Alexander resolve things themselves."
Vivian scoffed but softened her tone. "That's more like it."
"We've found Simon."
Alexander pocketed his phone, his expression grim. "Evelyn, stay with Vivian. I'll deal with him."
Vivian shot to her feet. "Where?"
Alexander hesitated, glancing at Evelyn. "Hamilton Group's underground garage."
"Ha! Alexander, if you don't roast him alive this time, I'll lose all respect for you!"
Alexander replied with two words: "Just wait."
He approached the bed, gripping Evelyn's hand over the blanket. "I'll be back soon."
To Vivian, he added, "Take care of Evelyn."
"Whether you come back or not doesn't matter—just make sure Simon ends up as barbecue! Extra cumin, please!"
A cold smirk tugged at Alexander's lips. "I'll send photos."
He nodded at Teresa. "Mrs. Taylor, I'll take my leave."
"Alexander, don't act rashly. Leave it to the police."
"I know my limits."
With that, he left.
Vivian snorted, turning to Evelyn. "Focus on recovering. If Simon's in Alexander's hands, he'll wish he were dead."
Evelyn nodded absently.
Her gaze remained fixed on Annabelle.
When Alexander departed, Annabelle's eyes followed him until he disappeared through the door, only then reluctantly looking away.
She turned—and met Evelyn's probing stare.
Annabelle flustered. "Dr. Carter, do you need anything?"
Teresa chimed in, "Yes, let Annabelle help. Miss Dempsey should rest."
Evelyn averted her eyes, typing on her phone.
[Finished? Then leave.]
Teresa's eyes reddened as she turned away.
Annabelle patted her mother's shoulder reassuringly. "Dr. Carter, my mother genuinely cares about you. If we've disturbed you, we apologize."
Evelyn typed a single word: [Go.]
Teresa wiped her eyes. "Alright, we'll go. Rest well."
Annabelle wheeled her chair toward the door. "Dr. Carter, we'll leave now."
Evelyn turned her head away, ignoring them.
Vivian shut the door and returned to the bedside. "That homewrecker's mother seems to genuinely see you as a daughter. Her concern didn't seem fake."
Evelyn typed again.
"And Annabelle... she's like a different person now. She risked everything to save you."
[She found me first.]
Vivian's eyes widened. "What? I thought it was Alexander..."
[Then she pushed me back into hell.]
