Chapter 937
Evelyn Carter sighed softly as she watched Alexander Hamilton forcing himself to stay awake. She set down the water glass and picked up the bowl of red date congee again, lifting a spoonful to his lips.
This time, Alexander didn’t refuse. He obediently opened his mouth.
The congee was soft and sweet, the rich flavor of red dates melting on his tongue. Only then did he realize just how hungry he was.
"Emily called yesterday," Evelyn said quietly as she fed him. "You promised to take only half a day off, but you disappeared for the entire day."
Alexander swallowed the congee and nodded slightly. "She knows?"
"Yes. I told her you fainted." She scooped another spoonful. "She said to focus on recovering. Everything at the company is under control."
A flicker of surprise crossed his eyes. He hadn’t expected Evelyn to handle things for him, and warmth bloomed in his chest.

Margaret Hamilton hurried in, frowning at her son’s pale face. "You foolish boy, how could you push yourself like this?"
She turned to Evelyn. "Make him rest for a few more days. Use up all his accumulated leave."
Evelyn quickly explained, "Aunt Margaret, he lost a lot of blood this time. I’m afraid—"
"Then take sick leave!" Margaret’s eyes brightened, and she subtly winked at her son. "Focus on recovering. Work can wait."
Alexander gave a resigned nod and leaned weakly against the headboard.
Once Margaret left, satisfied, Evelyn studied him with concern. "Don’t push yourself—"
Before she could finish, the door swung open again. Baby Chloe, her hair tied into tiny braids, stumbled in, clutching Grace Anderson’s hand.
"Mommy!" The little girl’s sweet voice rang out as she rushed toward Evelyn.
Alexander instinctively reached for her, but the moment he sat up, darkness clouded his vision. He collapsed back onto the pillow.
Grace sighed. "She’s been crying since her early education class ended, insisting on seeing you."
Evelyn gently wiped the tears from the child’s cheeks, but Baby Chloe suddenly pulled away. Wobbling unsteadily, she toddled toward Alexander and stretched out her tiny hand. "Daddy…"
