Chapter 576
Alexander Hamilton noticed Evelyn Carter's exhaustion and smoothly changed the subject. "Construction projects always prioritize companies they've worked with before. Anderson Group still has a chance."
Evelyn gave a slight nod, her gaze returning to the laptop screen.
He stood quietly behind her, only speaking up when he spotted flaws in the proposal. Time slipped by unnoticed until stars dotted the night sky outside.
"I'm heading next door," Alexander said before leaving. "Get some rest."
Evelyn responded without looking up. "Mhm."
Morning sunlight filtered through the curtains. After a quick wash, Evelyn arrived at the conference room thirty minutes early.
Today's meeting had fewer attendees than Monday's. The shareholder who'd defended her was absent. Evelyn used the remaining time to double-check every detail of her proposal.
People trickled in. Most ignored her completely as they took their seats.
Evelyn kept typing, her fingers flying across the keyboard.
"Director Carter's quite the early bird," Manager Macmillan remarked as he sauntered in right on time, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
Evelyn didn't glance up. "You're not late either, Manager Macmillan."
As the meeting was about to start, the planning director hesitantly offered, "Director Carter, we've prepared a backup plan—"
"Unnecessary." Evelyn handed over a flash drive. "Use mine."
Macmillan scoffed. "Little girls shouldn't overreach. Managing a household suits you better."
"With your expertise, Manager Macmillan, I assume you're quite experienced with childcare?" Evelyn rose gracefully. "Let's begin."
She stood before the projector, presenting her proposal with razor-sharp logic. When she pointed out missing certifications, the room tensed instantly.
"That's standard procedure!" A veteran employee slammed the table. "We'd have included them in the bidding documents!"
Evelyn's calm gaze swept across them. "If you can't even prepare basic materials, how can I trust you with major projects?"
Whispers erupted through the room.
"This style feels like Hamilton's work."
"Did he send her as his proxy?"
Evelyn ignored them, announcing personnel changes. The head of marketing immediately protested. "Why transfer staff from other regions?"
"The local market is stable. Reallocating resources makes sense." Evelyn's tone carried hidden meaning. "Unless someone fears being outperformed by newcomers?"
Macmillan cut in darkly, "And if this fails—"
"Company interests come first." Evelyn scanned the room. "Unless anyone here has... alternative priorities?"
"What are you implying?" The veteran employee erupted. "A greenhorn like you dares give orders? This plan is obviously—"
The conference door swung open.
Alexander Hamilton strolled in as casually as entering a garden, taking a seat under everyone's stunned gazes.
"Continue." He looked up at Evelyn, a faint smile in his eyes.
The room fell dead silent.
