Chapter 885

Alexander Hamilton knelt by the baby crib, carefully tucking in the blanket around Baby Chloe. The warm glow of the nightlight illuminated his focused profile. Evelyn Carter leaned against the doorframe, a rare sense of peace washing over her.

Weekends always slipped away too quickly. On Monday morning, Alexander drove Evelyn to the hospital as usual. Before leaving, he bent down to kiss their sleeping daughter and refilled Peanut’s food bowl.

"Drive safely," Margaret Hamilton hesitated, then simply handed Evelyn a thermos. "If you feel tired, take the day off. Don’t push yourself."

Evelyn accepted the cup, her fingers brushing its warm surface. "Thank you, Aunt Margaret. I’ll be careful."

"You’re always too considerate," Margaret sighed. "If Alexander had half your steadiness, I wouldn’t worry so much. A man in his thirties, still so indecisive..."

Evelyn pressed her lips together, offering no reply.

Grace Anderson emerged from the kitchen, stuffing two lunch boxes into Evelyn’s bag without glancing at Alexander.

Alexander took the car keys without flinching, smoothly starting the engine.

"Maybe..." Evelyn fastened her seatbelt, hesitating. "I should explain things to Aunt Margaret?"

"No." Alexander vetoed immediately. "If we come clean now, the scolding I endured these past few days would be for nothing."

He turned the steering wheel, his tone resigned. "My mother finds fault with everything I do these days. If you suddenly change your story, she’ll assume I pressured you."

Evelyn watched the scenery flash by outside the window, murmuring, "Then I should move back to the apartment."

Alexander’s grip on the wheel tightened. "The baby cries for you at night."

The words struck a chord. Evelyn sighed and dropped the subject.

In the CEO’s office at Hamilton Group, Emily Zade noticed her boss’s distraction.

"Mr. Hamilton," she handed him a file, "relationship troubles again?"

Alexander rubbed his temples. "Mine."

Emily nodded knowingly. "Mood swings during pregnancy?"

"She doesn’t want to burden the elders." Alexander rarely showed frustration. "I’m trying to figure out how to..."

"I understand." Emily adjusted her glasses. "When I was pregnant, I felt the same. The key is making your wife feel that caring for her is the family’s joy, not a duty."

Alexander fell into thought.

At noon, Alexander carried a lunchbox into the OB-GYN department, only to find Evelyn’s seat empty.

"Where’s Dr. Carter?" He stopped a passing nurse.

The nurse looked surprised. "Dr. Carter’s in the OR. She’s been there for three hours."
