Chapter 388
Anthony Taylor watched his two daughters locked in bitter confrontation, his heart wrenching with pain.
"Evelyn, what's done is done. Annabelle has truly repented these past days. Can't you give her a chance to make amends?"
Evelyn Carter turned her face away coldly. "I wasn't pursuing this. She's the one who insisted on provoking me."
"This child... It's our fault for spoiling her too much."
"If you recognize it as spoiling, then let her face the consequences. Don't expect anyone else to clean up her mess—not you, and certainly not Alexander."
Anthony sighed and nodded. "You're right."
"This is the ICU. It requires silence. You should leave now and not disrupt the medical staff."
As Anthony hesitated, Alexander Hamilton gently took his arm. "Uncle Anthony, let me escort you and my mother home."
Anthony's worried gaze lingered on Evelyn's slender frame by the glass window. "But she's alone..."
"Emily will arrive shortly to take you and Mother home. I'll stay with Evelyn."
Margaret Hamilton added softly, "Anthony, you must take care of yourself. When Mrs. Lin wakes up, your family will need you."
Anthony's eyes reddened. "I failed to protect my daughter... and to care for my wife..."
"Let's go," Alexander said, supporting him as they walked out.
Margaret followed closely behind.
Annabelle Taylor stood abandoned, then hurried after them. "Aunt Margaret, let me help you."
Margaret avoided her touch. "That won't be necessary."
"But it's dark and slippery—"
"My vision is just fine," Margaret replied without looking back.
Annabelle's voice trembled. "Aunt Margaret..."
"Yes?" Margaret continued walking.
"Do you... hate me now?"
Margaret's lips curved slightly. "Why would I? Alexander—"
She quickened her pace to support Anthony's other arm.
"Slow down. I can't keep up."
Alexander's expression darkened. "Understood."
"I know you're worried about Evelyn and want to return quickly. But your uncle just injured his knee. Be mindful of him."
Alexander adjusted his pace. "Of course."
At the hospital entrance, Emily Zade arrived promptly.
"Mr. Hamilton."
"Please see the elders home safely. Thank you."
"Should I take Mr. Taylor back to the rehabilitation center?"
"The family estate for now. The center is too far."
"Understood. And Miss Taylor...?"
Alexander remained silent.
Annabelle interjected urgently, "I want to stay at Alexander's apartment! The one we were supposed to live in after the wedding!"
Alexander's gaze turned icy.
Margaret settled the matter decisively. "Everyone is returning to the estate."
