Chapter 107
Evelyn Carter suppressed her fury. A wedding wasn't the place for outbursts. She knelt to help Natalie Stapleton up.
Natalie's ankle had swollen to the size of a loaf of bread. Tears streamed down her face. "Evelyn, I can't stand..."
"Let me check."
Evelyn lifted the wedding dress hem gently. The ankle was a ghastly shade of purple.
"You need an X-ray. It might be fractured."
The emcee rushed over. "What happened? The toast is about to start."
"She can't walk," Evelyn said coldly. "Tell the groom to explain to the guests."
Natalie covered her face, sobbing. "I'm ruined. Everyone saw me humiliate myself..."
"I'll fetch the groom," the emcee turned to leave.
"No!" Natalie grabbed his sleeve. "He's discussing business. He'll be furious..."
Before Evelyn could respond, a deep voice spoke behind them. "Need help?"
Alexander Hamilton stood there, Annabelle Taylor beside him, her belly round with pregnancy.
Natalie shrank back. "Mr. Hamilton. Mrs. Hamilton."
Simon Stapleton strode over, face dark. "What's this? Get up!"
"Her ankle's sprained. She needs medical attention." Evelyn met his glare. "Carry her back."
Simon scoffed. "Who do you think you are? Take your red envelope and scram."
Evelyn's lips curled. "Your wife's in pain, and you're worried about money?"
"Cut the act. You just want more cash."
"Simon!" Evelyn snapped. "She's pregnant with your child. This could be dangerous!"
Alexander's head jerked up. "She's pregnant?"
He stepped forward. "Could the fall hurt the baby?"
"Unclear." Evelyn frowned. "Early pregnancy is fragile. She needs immediate examination."
Alexander pulled out his phone. "Emily, prepare the car."
Annabelle tugged his sleeve. "Alexander, don't interfere..."
