Chapter 469
"You should get that endoscopy done soon."
Alexander Hamilton tapped his fingers lightly on the desk. "The stomach reacts to emotions. Pain doesn't always mean illness."
"You seemed quite cheerful lately, juggling multiple women."
"Dr. Carter, your words sting."
"They'll sting even more later. Stop coming to see me."
Alexander arched an eyebrow. "Using me and then tossing me aside?"
"When did I ever use you?"
"Grandma Dempsey's matter doesn't count?"
Evelyn Carter fell silent.
He smirked knowingly. "What kind of 'use' did you think I meant?"
This man held grudges like no other.
"Follow the doctor's orders when you go to the hospital."
Alexander nodded.
Evelyn stood up. "I have an online lecture to attend."
"The Architecture Summit is happening in the capital next week," he suddenly said.
Evelyn turned back. "Vivian mentioned it."
"It's top-tier in the industry. Even newcomers can learn a lot."
"I might not understand anything there."
Alexander stirred his coffee leisurely. "The association is hosting it. There's a dedicated networking zone for newcomers."
"You want me to go?"
"Broadening your horizons never hurts."
"I'll check out past summit videos first."
Alexander remained unhurried. "It's invitation-only. No letter, no entry."
"That strict?"
"My seat is in the front row." He lifted his gaze. "Companions get even better seating."
Evelyn grew wary. "I'll decide after watching the videos."
"Something still holding you back?" he countered. "The Dempseys' debts are cleared. The old lady is back."
"Aunt Teresa needs someone to look after her."
Alexander nodded. "I'll visit once things settle down."
......
The next morning, Evalyn pushed open the hospital room door with a bouquet of lilies in hand.
"Evelyn!" Anthony Taylor greeted her with delight.
"How is she...?"
Teresa Taylor lay quietly, her complexion rosier than last time.
"She was so happy when she heard you needed money that she ate a whole apple."
"Apples should be eaten in moderation."
Evelyn arranged the flowers, their fragrance filling the room.
The corners of Teresa's lips lifted slightly.
"The company handover is almost done." Evalyn sat down. "Any advice?"
Anthony beamed. "No one is born knowing everything. Ask anytime you hit a snag. Alexander will help too."
"Do you know about the summit?"
Anthony's eyes lit up. "You're thinking of going?"
"I'm not sure if it's useful. Feels like Alexander's..."
"Like his what?"
"Never mind." Evalyn shook her head. "Is it suitable for newcomers?"
"Absolutely!" Anthony grew animated. "The organizers prioritize nurturing new talent. Alexander has thought this through thoroughly."
He launched into a detailed explanation of the building materials industry.
Evelyn took notes diligently when her phone buzzed.
"Miss Carter, your package will arrive within the hour," came Emily Zade's voice.
