Chapter 485
A girl leaned in and whispered, "I heard Mr. Hamilton is extremely strict. But let's be honest, all bosses are cut from the same cloth. Don't take it to heart. Here's a stress-relief trick—draw a little stick figure and poke it with a pin! Works like a charm."
Evelyn felt a flicker of warmth. "Thanks."
"No need! We're all in the same boat. By the way, which room are you in? I'll drop by tonight, and we can vent about those heartless bosses together!"
Evelyn shook her head slightly. "I might have work tonight."
"Seriously? Even on a business trip? Hamilton Group really is brutal."
Evelyn smiled without responding.
The venue suddenly fell silent.
Alexander Hamilton entered alone, striding straight to the Platinum Section. The moment he took his seat, the atmosphere in the room shifted.
Evelyn straightened up, diligently jotting down key points from the industry leaders' speeches.
The summit lasted until dusk.
As Evelyn stepped out, she spotted Lydia Laurent chattering animatedly around Alexander.
"Evelyn!"
Alexander pulled open the car door. "Get in."
Lydia blinked. "Are we staying at the same hotel as last night?"
"Yes."
"Please tell me you're not spending another night at the gym. Should we switch hotels?"
The corner of Alexander's mouth lifted. "We'll see."
Evelyn couldn't shake the feeling that his smile held hidden meaning.
She stayed silent, closing her eyes the moment she got in the car.
Lydia bubbled with excitement. "The Summer Palace was packed, but the scenery was breathtaking—"
"Lydia." Alexander cut her off. "Lower your voice."
Lydia immediately clapped a hand over her mouth, glancing at Evelyn. "Is Evelyn asleep?"
"Let her rest."
The car fell quiet.
Evelyn wasn't actually asleep. She'd barely gotten any rest the night before. Exhaustion weighed on her, but sleep remained elusive.
Lydia gently tugged her sleeve. "Evelyn, are you awake?"
"Yes."
"Last night was so rushed—I never got to thank you." Lydia's cheeks pinked. "If you hadn't called for... supplies, I'd still be trapped in that bathroom."
Evelyn opened her eyes. "It's a natural bodily function. Nothing to be embarrassed about."
Lydia twisted her fingers. "But... back in school, boys would make a scene whenever girls carried those."
"Even abroad?"
"Yeah."
Evelyn met her gaze firmly. "Ignore them. Next time, ask the hotel front desk or any female staff for help."
Lydia mumbled, "Having a boyfriend would make things easier... Evelyn, has yours ever bought them for you?"
"I don't have a boyfriend."
"Then... your husband?"
Evelyn's head snapped toward Alexander.
Through the rearview mirror, he cleared his throat. "Lydia asked before. I gave her the basics."
"What exactly did you say?"
"Just that you'd been married. Nothing else."
Lydia chirped, "Someone as wonderful as you will find an even better match!"
Evelyn had no response.
"Oh! That handsome guy I met at your place—he's pursuing you, right? He seemed so thoughtful, bringing all those gifts..."
A memory surfaced. Evelyn's voice softened. "...He did buy them for me once."
