Chapter 668
Evelyn Carter sensed something amiss. "Did the police say how that brother got injured?"
"They said it was a car accident." Lotus Waters kicked a pebble with his small foot. "Elder Thompson thinks bad people did it, but the hospital report says it was just an accident. His whole family moved away to a big city for treatment."
Alexander Hamilton's expression darkened. "Evil always meets its reckoning."
Lotus scoffed. "They've done terrible things for years with no consequences."
As they rounded the mountain pass, the village came into view. Lotus was about to point the way when seven or eight rough-looking young men appeared.
The boy froze, tiny hands clutching his shirt hem.
Alexander subtly positioned himself between the child and the threat. Evelyn quickly put on her shoes, only to be pulled behind Alexander's broad back.
"Can I help you gentlemen?" His voice could have frozen hell.
The leader spat. "Think you're hot shit with your fancy car? Get lost!" He jabbed a finger at Alexander. "We're gonna teach you a lesson today!"
Before he finished speaking, the thug flew backward, landing hard in the mud.
"Lotus, take Dr. Carter and run!" Alexander barked.
"What about you?" Both Evelyn and Lotus cried out simultaneously.
Alexander's lips curved slightly. "They've been shouting my name loud enough."
Evelyn grabbed his wrist. "These people don't even know who you are!"
The gang leader scrambled up, face twisted with rage. "Kill them all!"
Lotus yanked Evelyn away like a young panther. Alexander felt the fading warmth in his palm, momentarily dazed.
"Stop!" Evelyn realized Alexander had slowed his pace.
He turned, eyes glinting dangerously. "Didn't you want to see the real Alexander?"
Her heart clenched. "Don't be reckless!"
"Lotus." Alexander pushed Evelyn forward. "Protect the doctor."
The boy nodded fiercely, his gaze far older than his years.
As Alexander turned, Evelyn's choked cry followed him. He charged toward the pursuers without looking back, his white shirt snapping in the wind.
Lotus practically dragged Evelyn along. Her socks were soaked through with mud, but she ran silently beside the determined child.
"We'll find help for brother!" Lotus panted, his small hand gripping hers painfully.
The sounds of fighting and screams echoed behind them. Evelyn didn't dare look back, tears blurring her vision. She finally understood - the formidable Alexander Hamilton of legend had never truly disappeared.
