Chapter 124

Natalie's eyes reddened with urgency. "Evelyn was only trying to help me—"

"Shut up!" Simon snapped. "If Mrs. Hamilton told you to stay quiet, then do as you're told."

"But I can't just watch Evelyn get blamed for—"

At the mention of Evelyn, Simon rubbed his hands nervously. "Your precious Evelyn is more than capable of handling herself. Don't waste your breath."

Evelyn gave Natalie a reassuring smile, though her gaze remained icy. "Simon’s right. I always return what’s given to me."

A bead of sweat formed on Simon’s forehead. "This is all just a misunderstanding—"

"If it’s a misunderstanding," Evelyn shut her medical chart with a sharp snap, "then let’s clear it up right now."

Simon’s face paled. "Clear up what?"

"The lies you’ve been spreading."

Annabelle frowned at Simon. "What’s going on?"

Simon stammered, "It’s just—"

A knock at the door interrupted him.

Natalie assumed it was a nurse. "Come in."

But it was Alexander who stepped inside.

Simon immediately fawned over him. "Mr. Hamilton! What brings you here in person?"

Alexander carried several gift bags of supplements. His eyes swept over the crowded room. "I came to check on Natalie." He set the gifts on the bedside table. "Rest well."

Natalie flustered. "Thank you, Mr. Hamilton..."

Alexander’s gaze lingered on Evelyn. She was focused on writing medical notes, her white coat accentuating her cool detachment.

Annabelle suddenly lashed out. "Why are you here? Trying to make up for last night? Where were you?"

Alexander looked away. "I’m visiting a patient."

"Stop pretending!" Annabelle sneered. "You just wanted to see me—"

"I stated my reason."

Without looking up, Evelyn pointed at the door. "Take your argument outside."

Annabelle clung to Alexander’s arm. "We’re perfectly fine!"

"Then go display your affection elsewhere."

"What’s wrong? Can’t stand seeing us happy?"

"It’s nauseating."

Annabelle pressed closer deliberately. "Oh, I’m so sorry. We’re just too sweet, aren’t we?"

"Noise is prohibited in the hospital."

"Ugh, so many rules." Annabelle tugged at Alexander’s sleeve. "Alexander, why don’t we just buy this hospital?"

He shook her off. "Stand properly."

"I’m tired..."

Alexander pushed her away again. "I have work to attend to." He nodded at Natalie. "Contact my secretary if you need anything."

"Alexander!"

The door clicked shut behind him.
