Chapter 599
Evelyn Carter finally relaxed after hearing Mrs. Liu's words. "To be honest, I knew nothing about corporate management before taking over Anderson Group. I'll need your guidance."
Mrs. Liu smiled warmly. "Everyone starts from scratch. Mr. Hamilton specifically instructed me to assist you fully."
With both Alexander Hamilton and Emily Zade vouching for her, Evelyn trusted this new assistant completely.
She bit her lip, hesitation flickering in her eyes. "There's another thing... My management skills are nowhere near Mr. Hamilton's level. You might be disappointed."
No matter how infuriating Alexander was, his professional competence was impeccable.
Mrs. Liu understood immediately. "Ms. Carter, Mr. Hamilton doubled my salary precisely to solve problems for you. If you already knew everything, what would I be paid for? Starting today, I report to you alone."
Evelyn did a quick mental calculation—the salary was nearly executive-level.
She suppressed her surprise, but Mrs. Liu's assurance eased her mind. After all, no one would sabotage their own paycheck.
With a capable assistant, Evelyn finished a half-day's workload by mid-morning.
During her pre-lunch break, she headed to the restroom.
Just as she was about to exit, she overheard female employees chatting outside.
"I'm exhausted. The supervisor's been hovering nonstop—no chance to slack off."
"Same in logistics. People keep coming for supplies unexpectedly."
Evelyn paused, deciding to wait until they left.
Then the conversation took an unexpected turn.
"It's all because of the new Ms. Carter. Even Manager Macmillan has to tread carefully around her."
"Rumor has it she's Chairman Anderson's daughter? But doesn't he only have one daughter?"
"Shh, keep your voice down..."
"Why? We're not the ones with secrets."
Evelyn raised an eyebrow, listening intently.
"At yesterday's executive meeting, Mr. Hamilton personally backed her up. Manager Macmillan was speechless."
"Didn't Mr. Hamilton have a fiancée?"
"Long broken up! Heard someone interfered."
"So Ms. Carter climbed the ladder through Mr. Hamilton?"
"How else would she parachute into the CEO position?"
"Maybe even the 'Anderson' surname was arranged by him?"
"The old chairman's barely involved anymore. Mr. Hamilton's been running things for years."
"Rich people's drama..."
"Guess what I noticed? Mr. Hamilton has a fresh scar on his arm!"
"Oh god, you don't think..."
"Who knew Ms. Carter had such... wild tastes privately..."
The door slammed open as Evelyn stepped out.
The women paled. "M-Ms. Carter!"
Evelyn washed her hands deliberately. "I am indeed Chairman Anderson's biological daughter. And Mr. Hamilton has indeed helped me significantly."
"Ms. Carter, we were just chatting casually—"
"Office gossip is harmless," Evelyn dried her hands, "but keep it internal. Anderson Group can't afford scandals right now."
"Yes, of course—"
They fled like startled rabbits.
