Chapter 945
Baby Chloe blinked her big curious eyes as she studied Elder Wilson.
The old man's face lit up. "My wife and I always wanted a daughter, but we ended up with another boy. Didn't dare try again after that." He chuckled. "This little one is absolutely delightful."
He picked the juiciest peach from the fruit tray, polished it carefully, and handed it to her.
"Thank you, Grandpa~" Her tiny voice sent waves of laughter through the room.
Alexander Hamilton found a small basket to hold the peach, worried she might drop it. His fatherly instincts were on full display.
Evelyn Carter suppressed a smile at the sight.
Noticing her amusement, Alexander's gaze softened. Their eyes met briefly before Evelyn quickly looked away.
"With such a loving relationship, no wonder you're expecting again so soon," teased one of the Wilson elders.
The comment brought an awkward silence. Saved by new arrivals, Alexander guided Evelyn and Chloe to a quiet corner.
"Didn't know you played matchmaker," Evelyn quipped.
Alexander handed her a juice. "Just acquaintances."
His intense stare made her shift uncomfortably. Baby Chloe giggled nearby, as if understanding the tension.
They rejoined the party when dinner was served.
Gregory Wilson stood by the side entrance, watching them leave. He'd known Alexander would bring Evelyn, yet the sight still twisted his heart.
The garden bloomed with fragrance as Evelyn led Chloe through the flowers. The toddler adored them, sniffing each blossom enthusiastically.
"Dr. Wilson?" Evelyn turned and spotted him.
Gregory swallowed hard. "Congratulations on the pregnancy."
"Thank you." She rested a hand on her belly, eyes glowing.
"Let me know if you need anything." His voice tightened. "About the hospital incident—I was away..."
"It's over." Evelyn cut him off, unwilling to revisit the past.
Silence fell until Chloe's babbling at the flowers broke it.
Evelyn produced a bank card. "Actually, there's something I need to return."
Gregory froze.
"Two million, principal plus interest." Her tone was steady. "PIN is the first six digits of your phone."
The card was from Teresa Taylor—the exact amount owed, as if fate intervened.
"Consider it... closing a chapter." Gregory refused to take it.
"If I don't pay now, the interest will bury me." Evelyn joked but firmly pressed the card into his hand. "Unless you're trying to scam me for more?"
