Chapter 92

The call connected, and Annabelle's shrill voice pierced through the phone. "Alexander Hamilton! How dare you ignore my calls?!"

"Annabelle," Alexander massaged his temples. "Wait in the lobby. We need to talk."

"The lobby? You expect a pregnant woman to wait there? Which room are you in? I'm coming up now!"

"I'll come down to you."

The balcony overlooked the valley where Evelyn had clearly heard their last argument. He couldn't risk Annabelle disturbing his mother upstairs.

"No! I'm going to your room!"

"Then I'll have them prepare another—"

"Alexander!" Her voice turned razor-sharp. "What are you hiding in there? Another woman?!"

"There's nothing."

"Then why won't you let me see?" She suddenly turned to the front desk. "Tell me which room Mr. Hamilton is in!"

"Don't involve them." His tone turned icy.

"Defending her now?" Annabelle sneered. "Just a receptionist—or is there something between you two?"

"Annabelle," Alexander took a deep breath. "Why do you always assume I'm involved with other women? Have I ever given you reason to doubt me?"

"Dignity?" She scoffed. "I'll find out myself!"

Shoving past the receptionist, she typed in Alexander's ID number.

"You're staying in Evelyn's old room!" Her voice turned shrill. "And you claim you weren't thinking about her?!"

Alexander rushed downstairs, intercepting her at the elevator.

"Is Evelyn in your room?" Annabelle raged, trying to push past him. "I'll tear that bitch's face off!"

The elevator doors suddenly opened.

Auntie Marry rushed out in panic. "Young master! Your mother's condition is worsening!"

Alexander's chest tightened. "What happened?"

"Her headache is severe, and the ambulance hasn't arrived—"

"I'll drive her to the hospital." He turned decisively. "Auntie Marry, help her downstairs."

Annabelle yanked his sleeve. "You're not leaving! We settle this now!"

"Let go!" He roared. "This is an emergency!"

"They called an ambulance!" She threw herself on the floor, clinging to his leg. "You're not going anywhere!"

Alexander struggled but hesitated, mindful of her pregnant belly.
