Chapter 920

Vivian Dempsey was enthusiastically explaining the movie plot to Evelyn Carter when her fingers moved faster than her brain, swiftly booking two tickets. "The show starts in an hour. There's still time to find someone else to go with you."

"I can call Olivia myself," Evelyn said gently. "You should head back first."

Vivian stubbornly shook her head. "I need to make sure someone's with you." She insisted on waiting until Evelyn finished the call, only to learn Olivia was on night duty.

Vivian bit her lower lip in frustration. This outing had been her idea, yet she was about to leave Evelyn alone. "What about Emily?"

"She has plans with classmates." Evelyn chuckled. "I'm not a child who'll get lost, you know."

"But you're pregnant!" Vivian stomped her foot, then suddenly brightened. "No choice—I'll have to call him."

Before Evelyn could stop her, Vivian had already dialed Alexander Hamilton's number. She tersely explained the situation and hung up immediately, as if hearing his voice for even a second was unbearable.

Evelyn hesitated. She knew Vivian's hostility toward Alexander stemmed entirely from her own past. The words of reconciliation lingered on her tongue but remained unspoken.

Alexander arrived astonishingly fast. Dressed in a minimalist smoke-blue shirt with slightly undone buttons and crisp dress pants, he exuded an aura of restrained elegance, clearly having come straight from the office.

Vivian sternly instructed, "I have an emergency. Evelyn's your responsibility now. If she loses even a single hair, you'll answer to me!"

Alexander naturally stepped to Evelyn's side, taking her thermos. "If anything happens, you can hold me accountable." He paused. "Give my regards to your father and grandmother. Evelyn and I will visit soon."

Vivian raised an eyebrow. She'd only just learned about her grandmother returning for medical treatment, yet Alexander already knew. Remembering his help arranging the private jet, she reluctantly softened her tone. "Thanks for before. I'm leaving."

Before departing, she pulled Evelyn aside for extensive last-minute reminders, her demeanor completely different from moments ago.

Evelyn suppressed a laugh. Once Vivian was gone, she explained to Alexander, "Vivian is actually grateful to you. It's just... best friends are always extra critical of the men in their friend's life."

Alexander's eyes darkened. "Do you really think I'm that petty?"

Evelyn considered seriously. "Remember when Annabelle first returned? You fired several employees. And that time—"

Alexander cleared his throat, swiftly changing the subject. "The movie's starting soon. Let me pay."

Evelyn pressed her lips together to hide a smile, pointing to the shopping bag. "Already taken care of."

Alexander picked up the bag, frowning. "Why so few items?"

"Maternity clothes won't fit for long. These are enough." Evelyn shrugged.

He strode directly to the sales associate. "Wrap up everything except these three sets."

The clerk froze. Alexander handed over a black card. "Leave the purchases here after payment. Someone will collect them." He immediately called his driver Henry to retrieve the items.

Evelyn stared in disbelief. "This is excessive. I couldn't wear them all even changing daily."

"Then change daily." Alexander was dead serious. "If nothing fits, I'll have designers come for custom measurements."

Evelyn recalled the luxury brand designers who'd previously arrived with models in tow and immediately felt a headache coming on. "Absolutely not. I have no interest in haute couture, and it's unsuitable for work. The movie's about to start."

Alexander instantly relented, carefully guiding her onto the escalator before buying popcorn. Had ticket sales not ended, he would've happily bought out the entire theater.
