Chapter 845
Evelyn's fingers twisted together unconsciously. The image of Vincent pushing her away lingered in her mind.
"Are you thinking about what just happened?" she asked softly. "He did save someone this time, but..."
She swallowed her words. Voicing baseless suspicions would only cause unnecessary distress.
Bianca spoke first. "You also think this car accident is too coincidental, don't you?"
Evelyn exhaled in relief and lowered her voice. "I suspect this is his self-harm strategy. High risk, but enormous rewards. If successful, he not only clears his name but makes everyone see him as the victim."
"Mr. Valentine's accident was only three months ago. Two car crashes in succession—anyone would think the mastermind is a reckless fool."
Who was Vincent Croix? A man infamous in the business world for his ruthlessness and meticulous planning. How could such a man make such an amateurish mistake?
Unless—this was exactly the impression he wanted to give.
Evelyn stopped short. "Miss Langley, I know I shouldn't speculate maliciously, but..."
"I understand." Bianca closed her eyes, her lashes trembling slightly. "On the way to the hospital, I was already thinking about how to prove this."
No wonder she had been eerily quiet during the ride.
Evelyn inhaled sharply. "Should you go home and rest first?"
If this was truly Vincent's orchestrated act, he wouldn’t be in any real danger. Waiting here was pointless.
But Bianca shook her head, a dark glint flashing in her eyes. "You two go ahead. I have some unfinished business."
She had prepared thoroughly for their "reunion," never expecting the opportunity to arrive so suddenly.
"This is a hospital," Evelyn said anxiously, grabbing her hand. "Don’t do anything reckless."
Given Bianca’s fiery temperament, strangling the man who had schemed against her wouldn’t be surprising.
Bianca suddenly smiled. "Don’t worry. I won’t... take action here."
That slight pause made Evelyn’s heart skip a beat.
Alexander approached with the medical report. "Vincent only has minor injuries and a slight concussion, but he hasn’t regained consciousness." He frowned. "The doctor said he should’ve woken up by now."
Evelyn replied coolly, "The scans are clear. He’s probably just knocked out."
Bianca smirked sarcastically. "I’ll cover the medical bills. Mr. Hamilton, hand me any documents that need signing."
Alexander understood immediately and passed her the paperwork without another word.
After signing, Bianca didn’t spare a glance toward the hospital room, leaving her contact number before walking out.
At the hospital entrance, Evelyn remained uneasy. "Do you want to see the baby?"
Bianca paused, emotions flickering in her eyes. But she quickly composed herself. "No. Sometimes she looks like me, sometimes like him... Our fate ends here."
The best thing she could do for her child now was to stay away.
Alexander interjected, "We’ll take you home. Where are you staying?"
Bianca gave an address that stunned them both.
"The house we lived in when we were married," she said flatly, as if discussing someone else’s life.
Evelyn gasped. "Aren’t you afraid he’ll come looking for you?"
Bianca scoffed. "He’s the one who should be afraid. If he dares to show up, I might actually respect him for it."
The most dangerous place was the safest. Vincent would never imagine that the woman he’d been desperately searching for was living in their former marital home.
Alexander insisted on escorting her home. The three-story villa stood eerily desolate in the night.
Evelyn stared at the darkened windows, her worry deepening. "Are you sure you don’t want to move somewhere else?"
"No need." Bianca pulled out her keys. "Want to come in? You’ve never visited my place, have you?"
