Chapter 794
The sudden hand was noticeably larger than Bianca Langley's, with distinct knuckles and a healthy tan complexion. The neatly trimmed, rounded nails spoke of someone meticulous. But what truly caught the eye were the dazzling matching diamond rings adorning their intertwined fingers.
Evelyn Carter's gaze lingered on the rings, her lips curling into an unconscious smile. She knew exactly what those rings signified.
"Wonderful," she murmured.
Alexander Hamilton stood beside her, his eyes also fixed on the rings. No one understood better than him how arduous Bianca's journey had been.
"Indeed," he said, his voice warm with satisfaction before shifting topics. "By the way, Bianca invited us to Canada."
He handed her a postcard adorned with red maple leaves. The handwriting on the back was neat, every word brimming with lightness.
Evelyn took the postcard, her fingertips brushing lightly over the paper. "The hospital actually has an exchange program in Canada. I was planning to send Olivia Lightfoot."
Alexander's eyes brightened. "So we could go together?"
"What about your company—"
"Don't worry," he interrupted smoothly. "Everything's arranged."
On the day of departure, Evelyn finally understood what Alexander meant by "arranged."
The entire delegation's tickets had been upgraded to business class, and their accommodations were exclusively five-star hotels. The murmurs among the doctors speculated about the sudden generosity from the hospital director.
Evelyn quietly put on her headphones, pretending to sleep. She could feel Alexander's gaze beside her—soft enough to melt ice.
By the time the plane landed, it was past midnight. To her surprise, Bianca had brought her baby and her new fiancé to meet them.
"Over here!" Bianca waved enthusiastically. Beside her stood a man with thin-framed glasses, one hand pushing a stroller, the other holding a welcome sign.
Evelyn's eyes immediately found the baby in the stroller. The little one's hair had grown longer, tied into adorable pigtails, and she was babbling happily at them.
"May I hold her?" Evelyn's voice trembled slightly.
Bianca laughed. "You're her godmother. Why even ask?"
Evelyn carefully lifted the baby into her arms. The sweet scent of milk clung to the child, and when her soft cheek pressed close, Evelyn felt her heart melt.
Alexander stood nearby, his gaze shifting between Evelyn and the baby. Suddenly remembering something, he turned to the man beside Bianca.
"Congratulations," he extended his hand.
The man adjusted his glasses, smiling shyly. "Thank you. Miss Langley speaks of you both often."
Bianca looped her arm through her fiancé's. "Let's get you to the hotel first. Tomorrow, we'll take you to see the maple leaves—they're at their most beautiful now."
The baby yawned in Evelyn's arms, tiny fingers clutching her collar tightly. When Evelyn kissed her forehead, the little one giggled instantly.
Watching this, Alexander's throat moved. Silently, he gathered their luggage closer, making more room for Evelyn and the baby.
Under the airport lights, their four shadows stretched long. The two pairs of rings gleamed brilliantly, like silent promises.
