Chapter 787

If only they had realized this truth sooner, perhaps they wouldn't have missed so many beautiful moments—or lost that innocent little life.

Evelyn Carter sighed softly. "We should've walked away when Annabelle first returned."

Alexander Hamilton's breath hitched.

"That's not what I meant," he said, his voice dropping as he quickly changed the subject. "I left work early today. Mother is taking the baby swimming. I've notified Bianca to visit."

After six months apart, Alexander worried the child might not recognize her mother. He'd arranged several reunions to ease the transition.

The thought of the impending separation made Evelyn immediately set aside her work. She accompanied Alexander to the infant aquatic center.

Margaret Hamilton had chosen this private facility specifically to protect Bianca's privacy. No paparazzi would find them here.

Bianca Langley leaned against the reception desk when they entered. Her fiery red dress matched the vibrancy in her eyes as she removed her sunglasses—brighter than Evelyn remembered.

"Long time no see," Bianca waved with a smile.

This radiant woman bore no resemblance to someone embroiled in divorce proceedings. Now Evelyn understood Alexander's meaning. Bianca hadn't just moved on—she'd been reborn.

They proceeded to the pool area where Baby Chloe splashed happily in a pink float ring, watched over by doting Margaret and Auntie Marry.

Bianca thanked the elders first, then crouched to extend her hands toward her daughter.

The baby's smile froze. Her tiny lips pressed into a thin line.

Bianca's fingers trembled. "Does she...not remember me?"

"She's recalling," Evelyn murmured. "After so long apart, she needs time to adjust."

A shadow crossed Bianca's eyes as she whispered, "Sweetheart, it's Mommy."

Recognition flashed across the child's face—followed by a sudden wail. Small fists clutched Bianca's collar desperately.

Fumbling for a towel, Bianca bundled her dripping daughter. The baby's heartbreaking sobs continued even as she refused to release her grip.

"Tell her you won't leave again," Evelyn suggested softly.

When Bianca complied, the cries gradually subsided. Margaret and Auntie Marry watched with bittersweet expressions.

Alexander's hand found Evelyn's in the quiet moment.

Two weeks later, mother and daughter had fully reconnected. The day of departure arrived as scheduled.

"Flight's next week," Bianca announced, swirling her drink. Tonight marked her lounge bar's final evening—tomorrow, new owners would take over.

She slid two cocktails across the counter. "Sunset Cruiser for you—barely any alcohol. And this Painkiller for Mr. Hamilton. May it teach you love's true meaning."

Evelyn sipped the fruity, nearly non-alcoholic blend. "Your drink looks special."

"Maple Fantasy." Bianca tilted her wine glass, lips curving unconsciously. "Made with maple syrup."

Alexander had noticed her transformed demeanor since returning. Only now did realization strike Evelyn. "You went to Canada?"

"Studied there years ago. Vast and quiet—perfect for new beginnings." Bianca's eyes sparkled. "And...I met someone interesting."

Evelyn's pulse quickened. "A man?"

"Yes." Bianca's smile bloomed like spring.
