Chapter 783

"Miss Langley and Baby Chloe owe you nothing." Evelyn Carter met Vincent Croix's gaze steadily, though her fingertips trembled slightly. "Let them go."

Sunlight streamed through the glass window, casting Vincent's elongated, solitary shadow across the floor. He remained motionless, his eyes darkening.

Evelyn turned away, the hem of her white coat slicing through the air with finality.

At the parking lot that evening, Alexander Hamilton leaned against his car, waiting. The moment he saw her troubled expression, he opened the passenger door. "What happened?"

"Vincent came to the hospital." Evelyn fastened her seatbelt, her voice tense. "He knows the baby is at the Hamilton estate."

Alexander's grip on the steering wheel tightened, his knuckles turning white. "Did he threaten you?"

"No." She stared out at the deepening spring twilight. "But he was... different. He kept asking about Bianca's whereabouts, even though he knows the baby is safe with us."

The car jerked to a halt. Alexander turned to her. "He regrets it."

"What?"

"He regrets it," he repeated, a sharp glint in his eyes. "Just like I once did."

Evelyn's breath caught. The spring breeze carried the scent of blossoms through the window, reminding her of Bianca's parting words.

"If that's true..." She clutched the fabric of her coat. "Could he change his mind about the divorce?"

Alexander chuckled. "Bianca isn't someone easily swayed." He restarted the engine. "But the baby isn't safe here anymore. We need to move."

"We?"

"Yes." His gaze remained fixed on the road ahead. "I've already arranged for a new place."

Children's laughter drifted from the estate entrance. Evelyn suddenly remembered—it was Friday. Lily and Lotus were coming to stay for the weekend.

"Dr. Carter!" Lily ran toward them, waving a notebook, her cheeks flushed. "The pretty lady left us a note!"

The postcard bore wild, almost frantic handwriting, the final character nearly leaping off the page. Alexander recognized it instantly. "Bianca."

Beneath the address was a lopsided heart, its edges blurred as if dampened by water.
