Chapter 722

Evelyn Carter jolted awake from a nightmare.

The night outside the window was pitch black. She gasped for air, her pajamas soaked with cold sweat.

Her phone screen lit up, the harsh light making her squint. No missed calls. The police still had no leads.

Only a work reminder from Emily Zade about needing Alexander Hamilton's personal seal.

Her fingers tightened around the phone, knuckles turning white.

This night would be endless.

At dawn, Anthony Taylor and Teresa Taylor arrived in a hurry.

"Terry..." Anthony hesitated, his eyes filled with heartache.

Evelyn was crouched by the baby crib, gently shaking a rattle. At the sound of his voice, her fingers trembled slightly before she forced a smile. "Dad. Mom."

Teresa grasped her icy hand. "Don't worry too much. Alexander will—"

"I know." Evelyn cut her off softly but firmly. "He'll come back."

She could feel Alexander was out there somewhere, just temporarily lost on his way home.

"Maybe..." Anthony chose his words carefully, "you should return to the OB-GYN Department? It might help distract you."

Evelyn shook her head. "Hamilton Group needs someone to hold the fort."

"But you alone—"

"He taught me." A faint smile touched Evelyn's lips, her eyes glistening. "Never thought I'd end up using those lessons for his own company."

A soft cough came from upstairs.

Margaret Hamilton had been struggling with insomnia lately. Evelyn knew. Auntie Wu mentioned she needed medication to sleep every night.

"Aunt Margaret isn't well. I need to take care of her for Alexander." Evelyn's voice was quiet.

Anthony and Teresa exchanged a glance and didn't press further.

Before leaving, Teresa suddenly held her back. "Is there anything we can do to help?"

Evelyn paused in thought, then called Lily and Lotus Waters over.

"Help them find a school." Her voice was hoarse. "Alexander promised them that."

Teresa's eyes reddened as she looked at Lily's young face. This child was the same age Evelyn had been when she left home.

"Don't worry. We'll handle it."

After seeing her parents off, Emily Zade called.

"Mrs. Hamilton, the project team is causing trouble!"

Shouting and chaos came through the phone.

Evelyn gripped her phone. "The seal and laptop are with me. They can't do anything."

"But this time they brought people—"

"I'm on my way." Evelyn grabbed her coat, her gaze landing on the desk drawer.

Locked inside were Alexander's personal belongings.

Including the seal he never went anywhere without.
