Chapter 709

Evelyn's fingers tapped lightly on the conference table.

The management knowledge she'd crammed to take over Anderson Group now raced through her mind. Alexander's business case studies surfaced with perfect clarity.

A flicker of admiration crossed Natalie's eyes.

"Madam, the whole company knows Mr. Hamilton was taken away by Lydia. All I can do is guard his office door."

Evelyn's gaze darkened. "Moving such a large sum requires Alexander's signature or seal. They wouldn't dare force it."

The elevator doors opened on the ground floor.

Heated arguments echoed clearly from the hallway outside the conference room. Natalie lowered her voice. "There's a senior board member inside who worked with Mr. Hamilton's father—"

"I understand." Evelyn massaged her temples. The commotion alone revealed what verbal battle Natalie had endured.

Natalie gave a wry smile. "Emily briefed me thoroughly, but given this situation, only Mr. Hamilton's presence could calm them."

Evelyn redialed Alexander's number. Still no answer.

"Madam," Natalie inhaled sharply, "you're the only one who can represent Mr. Hamilton now."

Evelyn nodded faintly. "I'll try."

The conference room door burst open.

Executives mid-table-pounding froze mid-gesture as the clamor died instantly.

The project lead frowned at Evelyn. "Who's this?"

Natalie straightened. "This is Mrs. Hamilton."

The room erupted.

The elderly board member narrowed his eyes. "You're... the Anderson daughter they just recognized?"

"Correct." Evelyn met his gaze squarely.

A snide voice cut in. "No wonder Mr. Hamilton favors Anderson Group—old flames die hard—"

Evelyn's icy stare silenced the speaker. "I'm here to protect my legal rights, not listen to gossip."

The project lead raised his hands. "I said nothing, Mrs. Hamilton."

The talkative employee mumbled, "I heard you and Mr. Hamilton divorced..."

Evelyn's chest tightened.

These people were far more cunning than Anderson Group's old foxes.

She calmly lifted her teacup. "Alexander and I were married three years without a prenup. By law, half of Hamilton Group's profits during that period belong to me."

The room went deathly silent.

The project lead suddenly laughed. "With Mr. Hamilton absent, who can verify your identity?" His eyes widened in mock realization. "You're here to cash in during the chaos?"

Evelyn's lips curved slightly.

"The funds can remain untouched. But until Alexander returns to authorize it, that money stays frozen in Hamilton Group's accounts."

Executives exchanged uneasy glances.

Someone jumped up. "Mrs. Hamilton, you're jeopardizing critical company business!"

Evelyn checked the wall clock. "Negotiating at 1 AM? Did Banyan Group relocate to the moon?"

Natalie delivered the final blow. "Guilty consciences prefer conducting shady deals at midnight."
