Chapter 651
"The door's unlocked." His voice was muffled, having assumed Evelyn wouldn't return so soon.
The wooden door creaked softly.
Alexander Hamilton looked up, surprised to see a bespectacled young man standing at the threshold. The stranger, barely in his twenties with a bookish demeanor, clearly wasn't a local villager.
His brow furrowed slightly as his sharp gaze assessed the newcomer, the air around him turning noticeably colder.
"Is Dr. Carter not here?" The young man adjusted his glasses nervously.
"She's at the clinic." Alexander's tone was clipped. "And you are?"
"I'm here for the teaching volunteer program." The visitor flushed. "There's a physics problem I can't solve, and I was hoping to ask Dr. Carter..."
Several timid children peeked out from behind him, textbooks clutched in their hands.
Alexander pushed himself up from the table. "She's busy. Show me."
The young man hesitated before handing over the worksheet. "You... understand physics?"
"Hmm."
Soon, the courtyard transformed into an impromptu classroom. Alexander sat on a low stool, sketching force diagrams in the dirt with a twig.
"This problem's beyond your syllabus, but there's another approach..."
His explanations were concise yet crystal clear. The children listened raptly, and even the volunteer teacher began jotting notes.
"Any questions?" Alexander scanned the group.
A small girl tentatively raised her hand.
"No problem. Let's go through it again."
As the sun dipped westward, the sandy ground became a canvas of equations. When the children prepared to leave, a bold boy asked, "Mister, can we come to you next time?"
The volunteer teacher quickly interjected, "Mr. Hamilton is very busy—"
"It's fine." Alexander cut him off. "Like Dr. Carter, I'm here to help."
Watching their jubilant retreat, he pulled out his phone and dialed Emily Zade.
"Contact several universities. Recruit volunteer teachers for the holiday program. I'll cover all expenses."
After hanging up, he freshened up briefly before heading to the clinic.
The two-story building buzzed with activity. Inside, Evelyn was intently examining a patient, strands of hair escaping her loose bun as she absentmindedly tucked them behind her ear.
Alexander stood in the courtyard, his gaze softening.
This was her true essence.
Shining brilliantly in her mission to heal.
