Chapter 607

Andrew Anderson opened his mouth to defend Alexander Hamilton but swallowed his words when he remembered Evelyn Carter's suffering.

The heart always favors its own.

No matter how outstanding Alexander was, he could never compare to their biological daughter.

Teresa Taylor nodded in agreement. "Andrew's right. Terry has no experience with relationships. She could easily be deceived."

Margaret Hamilton forced an awkward smile. "Well, not entirely inexperienced..."

Emily Anderson suddenly interjected, "Auntie, do you know Peter Harrison?"

Margaret blinked. "Who?"

Grace Anderson explained, "He's the son of my best friend. Our families are very close. That boy is truly wonderful—we know his background—"

She was cut off by Andrew. "Let's not bring up the past."

Grace sighed. "Now that Terry's status has changed, the gap between her and Peter is too wide."

Teresa, however, grew intrigued. "As long as he's a good man, family background doesn't matter. Don't you agree, Grace?"

Andrew immediately frowned. "It's not about background. They're impossible."

Teresa turned to Evelyn. "Terry, what do you think?"

Evelyn thought of that small island in the Pacific and chuckled lightly. "I really don't like him."

It wasn't just romantic disinterest—she despised Peter's character.

Teresa looked disappointed. "Next time, keep your eyes open. Don't rush into marriage blindly again."

"Mm."

Margaret caught the subtext. Teresa clearly didn't approve of Alexander.

Of course—what parent would accept their daughter marrying someone who'd hurt her before?

Margaret's heart ached as she sighed silently.

"Mom, would you like grape juice?" Alexander asked.

"No, water is fine."

He turned to Emily. "Em, should I pour you some juice?"

Emily shrank back. "I—I'll have water too."

Her sister had just scolded her. Best to behave.

Alexander's smile froze. "Alright."

Andrew glared at his younger daughter. "Weren't you begging for juice every day? Pass your cup."

Emily cautiously extended her glass. "Thank you... brother."

Teresa suddenly remembered something. "Has the youngest son of the York family left the military? Did he transfer?"

Anthony Taylor nodded. "Over a year ago. We even received an invitation to his birthday banquet."

"I recall he's three months older than Terry?"

"Yes, exactly three months. We attended his hundred-day celebration when you were pregnant with her."

Teresa brightened. "Should we ask the Yorks if he's married? At least we know his background."

Anthony glanced surreptitiously at Alexander. "Let's respect the children's wishes. Terry doesn't even know him."

Teresa sighed. "It's our fault for being absent so long—we don't even know what men are in her life. Andrew, we'll need your help with this..."

Margaret suddenly spoke up. "Sometimes the old is better than the new. Those with existing bonds might be more suitable."

Everyone understood her implication.

Teresa smiled without responding.

Grace, fiercely protective, countered, "Once was enough. We can't repeat past mistakes."

Alexander sat stiffly, finally forcing out the words: "Auntie, I've truly changed. If you're introducing potential partners to Evelyn... please consider me."

Dead silence fell over the table.

Andrew's expression darkened as if weighing a crucial decision.

Emily whispered to her sister, "Does Dad have someone in mind? Who? Do I know them?"

"You do."

Margaret panicked and quickly urged, "The children are still young. Let's eat first."

Anthony also smoothed things over. "Right, the food's getting cold."

But Andrew locked eyes with Alexander. "Tell me—are your feelings for Terry genuine now?"

"Absolutely." Alexander's throat moved. "The truth is... they've always been genuine. I just realized too late."

Evelyn's chopsticks trembled, dropping a bamboo shoot onto the table.

Slowly, she pulled out a tissue and began meticulously wiping the oil stain.
