Chapter 592

Ethan Valentine looked puzzled. "Senior, maybe you should stay a bit longer? The principal and the others will be here soon—"

"No need." Alexander Hamilton cut him off abruptly, turning to Evelyn Carter. "Time to go home."

Evelyn gave a slight nod. "Mm."

Ethan wasn't ready to give up. "I thought cats weren’t afraid of the dark."

"Mine is."

Alexander grabbed Evelyn’s wrist and strode out without looking back.

In the hallway, his expression darkened. "He put on quite the act."

Evelyn quickened her pace. "This is a hospital."

The elevator doors slid shut.

Alexander stared at the floor numbers. "He didn’t even have a scratch."

"Now you know how I felt back then?" Evelyn said coolly.

His Adam’s apple bobbed. "...I was blind."

The elevator dinged as it reached the first floor.

Alexander caught up quickly. "Let me drive you home."

"No need. It’s just two stops by subway."

His fingers tightened around the steering wheel. "I can drive you."

"That’s inappropriate."

"I don’t mind."

As she stepped out of the car, Evelyn glanced back at him. "I do. Personal time is important."

Alexander’s gaze dimmed. "Fine. I’ll have Emily Zade arrange it. It has to be a female driver."

"Just make sure she’s skilled."

Inside the elevator, Alexander spoke up again. "The cat shelter asked for some photos."

Evelyn pressed her lips together.

The moment the door opened, the Ragdoll cat pounced, rubbing its soft fur against her ankles.

Evelyn bent down to pick it up, her expression instantly softening.

Alexander quietly changed the litter and refilled the food bowl.

"It probably thought you abandoned it," he murmured, stroking the cat.

Evelyn shoved the cat into his arms. "Play with it."

"I could help you—"

"I’m going to shower."

Alexander stood in the living room, holding the cat, listening to the sound of running water. He sighed softly.

By the time Evelyn emerged, drying her hair, the aroma of food filled the air.

In the kitchen, Alexander was ladling soup.
