Chapter 545

Evelyn's fingers tightened slightly as she gently pulled back her furious father. "Dad, there might be more to this story."

Andrew Anderson paused mid-outburst. "What do you mean?"

"I went to the resort for work," Evelyn said softly but firmly. "But looking back now, there were many things that didn't add up."

Grace Anderson sighed in frustration. "I told you to get the facts first before storming over there."

"Mom, I understand how you feel." Evelyn reached for her mother's hand reassuringly.

Alexander Hamilton spoke up at the right moment. "Uncle, Auntie, I'll investigate this thoroughly. Whoever's behind this won't get away with it."

His eyes darkened.

Andrew snorted. "Finally something decent coming out of your mouth!"

"Dad," Evelyn continued, "other than Annabelle, did you notice anyone else suspicious? Even someone just loitering in the hallway counts."

The hospital room fell silent.

Emily suddenly gasped. "That horrible woman kept insulting my sister! When Dad was arguing with her, I think I saw someone in the corridor..."

Andrew slapped his thigh. "Now I remember! After security escorted Annabelle out, I saw her talking to a young girl."

"What did she look like?" Evelyn's heartbeat quickened.

"Seemed quiet and well-behaved. Petite, about your sister's age." Andrew frowned. "The girl was crying too, acting very concerned about Annabelle."

Evelyn and Alexander locked eyes across the room.

"Lydia," Alexander said grimly.

Andrew immediately stepped between them. "You know that girl?"

Alexander nodded. "Yes."

"Wait!" Emily blurted. "Isn't she the one from the hotel today—"

"Enough!" Andrew roared. "What brother-in-law nonsense!"

Emily shrank back. "Ex... ex-brother-in-law..."

Andrew jabbed a finger at Alexander's face. "Wasn't Annabelle enough trouble? Now you've got a fiancée too? Won't rest until you've destroyed my daughter?"

"The engagement is off," Alexander said quietly.

"Hah!" Andrew sneered. "Birds of a feather! That fiancée of yours hanging around with Annabelle—what does that say about her?"

Alexander absorbed the verbal blows in silence.

Evelyn analyzed calmly. "Annabelle coming to the hospital makes sense. But why would Lydia be here?"

"She came with Annabelle." Alexander's gaze turned icy.

Andrew suddenly remembered something. "That's right! That Lydia kept bringing up how you two were sharing a room!"

"What exactly did she say?" Evelyn pressed.

"Pretended to praise your kindness, but really just pouring oil on the fire!" Andrew grew angrier the more he thought about it. "That girl looks innocent, but she's cunning as a fox!"

Evelyn gave Alexander a thoughtful look.

Andrew glared. "Why are you still here?"

Alexander took a deep breath. "I'll handle this now."

As he turned to leave, something dangerous flashed in his eyes.
