Chapter 52

Vivian blinked. "Didn't that girl know he was married?"

"Apparently not! His pregnant wife was waiting for a table while he went to get their number. The girl only found out after taking the photo. She deleted it immediately and even apologized to his wife. Very polite about it."

"So it was resolved?"

"The pregnant woman wouldn't let it go! She chased the girl all the way from the restaurant entrance to the pumpkin carriage, accusing her of seducing her husband. The girl kept trying to avoid her, but the wife threw a tantrum, playing the victim card..."

Vivian scoffed. "Seriously?"

The short-haired girl suddenly pointed at Evelyn. "Hey, that girl looked just like you!"

Her boyfriend added, "Same innocent campus vibe."

"Exactly!" The girl gestured excitedly. "Ponytail, simple outfit—total good-girl energy..."

Vivian burst out laughing. "Now I get why that pregnant woman lost it. If my husband got photographed by someone that pretty, I'd freak out too."

Evelyn lightly swatted her arm. "Don't be ridiculous."

"I mean it!" Vivian leaned in. "Remember how many guys had crushes on you in high school? Too intimidated to make a move."

Evelyn shook her head. "You were top of the class too."

"Not the same!" Vivian rolled her eyes. "The guy who pursued me only wanted connections through my family."

Just then, another commotion erupted near the restaurant entrance.

The boyfriend craned his neck. "It's that pregnant woman again!"

Vivian perked up, dragging Evelyn toward the crowd. "Let's check it out!"

Evelyn's ponytail swayed as sunlight from the glass ceiling haloed her silhouette.

"Coming through—" Vivian weaved through the gathering.

A visibly pregnant woman was shrieking at a girl in a white dress. "Stop pretending to be innocent!"

The girl stood with her back turned—slender frame, high ponytail. From behind, the resemblance to Evelyn was uncanny.

The woman suddenly yanked at the girl's bag. "Hand over your phone! You must've saved his photo!"

"I already deleted it..." The girl's voice trembled.

Vivian gasped. "Even her voice sounds like yours..."

Evelyn frowned, stepping forward—until a deep voice roared, "Enough!"

A tall, strikingly handsome man shielded the girl.

The pregnant woman instantly switched tones, whimpering as she clung to him. "Honey, she was taking pictures of you—"

He pushed her away. "You've humiliated yourself enough. She apologized!"

The crowd erupted in murmurs.

Vivian gaped, tugging Evelyn's sleeve. "This is juicier than a soap opera!"
