Chapter 515
The air turned icy.
Vincent Wilson's eyes darted to his brother. "Gregory, didn't you say you have a consultation this afternoon?"
"No need to rush," Alexander Hamilton interrupted smoothly. "Since you're here, leaving so soon would make me a poor host."
Trapped between them, Vincent frantically signaled Gregory with his eyes.
Alexander sipped his tea. "Dr. Wilson seems troubled. Perhaps a few days in the mountains would help clear your mind. The fresh air is excellent for recuperation."
Gregory's gaze flickered. "Then I'll impose on your hospitality."
Beads of sweat formed on Vincent's forehead as he tugged his brother's sleeve.
"What's wrong?" Gregory asked impassively.
"I... I feel dizzy."
Gregory frowned. "Should I call a doctor?"
"No, no! Probably altitude sickness..."
As Vincent scrambled for excuses, his phone buzzed. Relief flooded his face as he checked the notification—then his eyes widened.
"Alex, why did you transfer me this much money? Let me count... Wait, there are even decimals?"
Alexander remained unperturbed. "Please forward it to Dr. Wilson. Interest calculated at the central bank's benchmark rate."
"Bro, you lent Alex money?"
"This concerns only Evelyn and me."
Alexander gently bounced the babbling toddler in his arms. "I'm repaying Evelyn's debt to you."
"Unnecessary." Gregory's expression darkened. "This is private between Evelyn and me."
"Then ask her yourself," Alexander murmured without looking up, tickling the giggling child. "See whose debt she'd rather owe."
......
Vivian Dempsey led Evelyn Carter along winding mountain paths until they found a secluded bench.
Sunlight dappled through the leaves as a breeze rustled the treetops.
"Evelyn," Vivian suddenly turned, "that Miss Liang... Did Alex really arrange her to help me?"
Evelyn explained everything.
"So... I misjudged him?" Vivian looked stunned. "He showed zero mercy before!"
"Manager Winston's proposal was objectively high-risk," Evelyn said carefully. "Alexander genuinely wanted to assist this time."
Vivian sat bolt upright. "He didn't demand anything, did he? Evelyn, don't sacrifice—"
"Relax," Evelyn gazed at the distant peaks. "I took nothing in the divorce. Certainly nothing now."
"Good." Vivian exhaled, then brightened. "How was the summit?"
Evelyn's eyes dimmed. "I fell ill upon arrival."
"There's always next year!" Vivian squeezed her shoulder. "Once Anderson Group stabilizes, you can return to the OB-GYN department."
Evelyn nodded faintly.
"One more thing..." Vivian hesitated. "When will you tell your adoptive parents about finding your birth parents?"
A mountain gust scattered fallen leaves. Evelyn watched one drift away, leaving the question unanswered.
