Chapter 506

Evelyn's gaze remained fixed on the small figure in Alexander's arms.

The baby squirmed playfully, tiny fingers curiously fiddling with the metal buttons on his cuff. She took a sip of milk, the faint sweetness lingering on her tongue.

"She's friendly, but be careful," she murmured.

Alexander's lips curved slightly, warmth softening his eyes. "I know."

His long fingers brushed gently over the baby's soft hair, his movements practiced—unnaturally so for someone who'd never held a child before.

"Did you sleep well last night?"

"Mhm." Evelyn set down her cup. "Where should we start today?"

Alexander plucked a lisianthus from the vase, carefully drying the stem before offering it to the baby. The little one immediately reached for the bright flower, babbling excitedly.

"We're meeting someone first," he said.

Evelyn watched the child's delight, her expression softening. "Babies are so easy to please."

"That's a good thing," Alexander replied, his voice feather-light.

Her tone turned serious. "It's fine to play with someone else's child for a while. Raising your own isn't so simple."

"I don't mind the challenge."

Her grip on the milk glass tightened imperceptibly.

She pulled out a rose next, and the baby instantly fixated on the new toy. As Alexander took the flower, his fingertips grazed the back of Evelyn's hand.

She withdrew instantly.

The baby giggled, waving tiny fists as Alexander playfully held the rose just out of reach. His teasing was measured—enough to amuse, never enough to risk harm.

"The stem still has thorns," Evelyn reminded him.

"I know." Then he glanced up. "She's here."

A woman in a beige suit approached, balancing a tray with fruit salad and several egg tarts. Her steps were graceful, but her eyes brightened when she spotted Alexander.

"Alexander, what a coincidence," she said with a radiant smile. "I was just about to look for you."

Her gaze lingered briefly on Evelyn before she chuckled knowingly. "Seems my guess was right."

Alexander gave a slight nod. "Miss Langley, this is Evelyn Carter." He deliberately added, "Bianca Langley is married."

Bianca burst into laughter. "In such a hurry to clarify?"

"I don't want her to misunderstand," Alexander said frankly.

Evelyn's ears warmed slightly as she nodded politely. Bianca cheerfully pulled out a chair. "Relax, Evelyn. Alexander and I are just business partners."

The baby chose that moment to let out an enthusiastic "Ah!" drawing laughter from everyone.

Bianca studied Alexander's hold on the child, arching a brow. "When did you take parenting classes?"

"Observation suffices," he said dismissively.

"Alright," Bianca cut into an egg tart. "Why the sudden invitation to this resort? What's the real reason?"

Alexander adjusted his grip on the baby. "Eat first."

"You've learned consideration now." Bianca's meaningful glance at Evelyn held amusement. "Last time I saw your daughter was at her full moon celebration. She's grown so much."

"Six months is enough time for a kitten to become a little tiger," Bianca said proudly.

Evelyn quietly noted the detail. A family important enough for Alexander to attend a full moon celebration was no ordinary one.

"Not focusing on investments lately?" Alexander asked casually.

"Spending time with my child takes priority," Bianca replied, spearing a piece of fruit. "You're not about to pitch me a project, are you?"

Alexander smiled without answering.

Bianca saw right through him. "This is for Evelyn, isn't it?" She shook her head, grinning. "Alexander Hamilton, you're done for."

"Let's discuss business," Alexander said with a light cough.

Bianca set down her fork. "Fine. What is it?"

Alexander looked at Evelyn. "Her friend's company is facing cash flow issues."

Evelyn's head snapped up, startled by his directness. Bianca's eyes darted between them before she laughed. "You should've said so earlier! I love playing matchmaker."
