Chapter 437
After all the twists and turns, everything circled back to Alexander Hamilton.
"I'll go to him." Evelyn Carter glanced at her watch. Time was too tight for explanations.
Anthony Taylor immediately began transferring funds: "Three million is on its way. Alexander just needs to sign. He won't make this difficult for you."
"Understood."
With the money secured, only Alexander's signature remained.
Evelyn dialed his number, but Emily Zade answered instead: "Miss Carter, Mr. Hamilton is in a meeting."
"This is urgent," Evelyn spoke rapidly. "Just a signature. Can you interrupt him?"
Every second counted. The bank would close soon.
Emily hesitated briefly: "I'll try."
The callback came quickly.
"Did he agree?" Evelyn gripped her phone.
"Mr. Hamilton said the company was always the Taylor family's asset. Since Mr. Taylor consents, he has no objections." Emily paused. "However, he wishes to formally return operational control to you. Permanently."
A clean break.
Evelyn bit her lip: "Agreed."
"Please come to headquarters immediately to finalize."
She moved fast. Anthony's transfer had cleared. Evelyn forwarded the sum to Vivian Dempsey, then rushed back to the law firm: "Funds are secured. I'll retrieve the remainder now."
The lawyer checked the clock: "Everything must clear before closing."
Evelyn nearly collided with the glass door exiting the office.
At Hamilton Group's executive suite, Emily and legal staff stood waiting.
"Where's Alexander?" Evelyn scanned the empty room.
"En route to the airport," Emily extended the documents. "Pre-signed."
Evelyn flipped to the final page and scrawled her name.
"Don't you want to review terms?"
"Unnecessary." She shut the folder. "He wouldn't manipulate this."
Dusk painted the skyline as she exited.
At the bank counter, her fingers flew across the keypad. When the last transfer processed, she finally exhaled.
Her phone vibrated—Vivian's caller ID flashed.
"Evelyn!" Sobs choked the connection. "The money's here. My father... he's safe..."
"It's over." Evelyn leaned against a marble column outside.
Vivian sniffled: "Was this... Did Alexander...?"
